I bid higher in a item

And the system keep telling bud again because someone else bid higher than me. When I check who won , the winner bid below me . What possible happened there ? I suppose to bid as higher as possible .

Go back to that auction and click on the bids.  You will see the times those bids were placed.  

It was obvious that someone was also watching the auction,  and wanted the item as badly as you ,  so kept out bidding you and won,  because thier winning bid came in just before auction close.  Your then higher bid must have been placed a few seconds too late.
