I accepted a return in error

I was trying to upload a photo proving my item was in good condition. The app started buffering and hey presto I'd accepted a return! I can't cancel this?

You won't be able to cancel it.   If it's a "not as described" return it's best to accept it anyway.   eBay tend to side with buyers and if they have to enforce the return that could harm your account.   Items can get damaged in transit.

Thank you for replying.  It's a pity as I was trying to upload photos on
the app and it buffered, then I'd accepted.  The buyer claims 2 buttons
were missing from a shirt but my listing photos show them all there and
intact.  I'm hoping I can refuse a refund when it's returned as it's
been tampered with but there seems to be little support for sellers.

You can always appeal a decision so you might be lucky.
