How to mark a return as dispatched when no tracking number is available

I had cause to return an SD card to the seller recently - I am unable to mark the return as dispatched, because it was sent by 2nd class postage, and I therefore have no tracking number to use when attempting to mark the return as dispatched.  Has anyone had this experience before, and if so, how did they alert the seller to the fact that the returned item was on its way?

It's over a fortnight since the item was returned, and an e-mail via e-Bay to the seller, alerting them to this fact, and requesting confirmation as to whether the item has arrived, has went unanswered.  I am reluctant to 'name and shame' yet, but my experience with this particular seller has been anything but satisfactory...

• If an item received is not as described the first thing you should do is contact the seller to try to resolve things simply

• In the event that requires a return of the item then you should open a not as described case here : http://resolutioncentre.ebay.co.uk/

As long as the seller is UK based then they should issue you with a prepaid tracked label as part of the returns process.......use it, add the tracking number to the case & you should be refunded as soon as delivery is attempted

Without tracking showing proof of delivery to the sellrt eBay cannot enforde a refund

• If things do not go smoothly you can escalate the case when it has been open a full 8 days to request eBay to step in

• DO NOT CLOSE THE CASE UNTIL RESOLVED !! Do not believe sellers who say they cannot do anything while the case is open as once closed it cannot be reopened !!

• Do not pay to return the item yourself as eBay cannot force reimbursement of postage charges if you do !!
