How can RM Tracking be inaccurate?

Ordered an item, as it wouldn't go through my letterbox, I opted when checking out with paypal, to have it delivered to work instead.

Had an ebay notification to say it had been delivered.....to work. RM tracking said the same.

It turned up at my home (my ebay registered address) the next day.

How can this be, or am I missing something?

Was it addressed to your home address, if so seller had not used the address provided by paypal, even though you say you had changed it before paying.

It is possible that delivery was attempted the previous day and marked as delivered then postman realised it would not go through letter box, OR taken in by a neighbour who delivered the following day.

Hi John, thank you for your suggestions, definitely chose work address, it's on the order details...and home and work are around 7 miles apart, and it was delivered to my home by RM...so it's going to have to remain one of life's mysteries!
