I have been informed by ebay that it is not possible to sell items with free delivery to a defined local area, and hand-drop to a local Argos store as a collection point. Apparantly it is because the item is not tracked for the few hundred yards it takes for the seller to make the drop off!
Instead I would need to post or courier the item with all the additional costs and inconvenience. And my local post Office is almost the same distance away!
Surely its simple. Item is sold. Seller drops off item at local Argos where it is tracked. Buyer is informed item can be collected. Argos get increased footfall. Ebay recieves seller fees.
What am I missing?

Not sure how to reply individually so here is an edit.
Thanks to everyone for their comments. Reasons that drop-off and collect without going through any mail or courier route wouls be perfect in my mind is that it reduces postal costs to nothing (some minor packaging costs remain). Argos would still make their gain on footfall which they have indicated is a major reason for the system (at least two potential customers. Buyers and sellers can trade without having to visit each others homes or make an arrangement to exchange in a safe and neutral place as recommended by ebay. When the item is delivered and collected it is recorded so that there is no doubt of where the item is in the system. No need for extra insurance.
I still have no idea why this way could not be an option.
Thanks again everyone.
