Global shippping not recognizing Canary Islands

Am I the only person frustrated that since contracting Pitney Bowles for the Global Shipping program, I can no longer have items delivered to my address because they refuse to deliver to the Canary islands?

Are there other destinations that they refuse to deliver to causing anyone else frustration?

I suspect the reason is that PB cannot find a low cost courier with whom to enter into a contract in order to deliver to the Canary Islands as that is a requirement where the scheme works

There is nothing to stop you buying from sellers who do not use GSP

I agree. So once again it boils down to saving money, offering a poorer service and actually passing on higher costs to sellers. I have at last started to get messages from US sellers saying that they don´t understand why they are being charged so much for sending simple things and often the postage quote for say a rubber, is the same as bicycle wheel to give an example that illustrates the point. It is sellers who use Global Shipping, why you want to buy from sellers who can't be bothered to deal direct is beyond me.

GSP costs at least twice as much as a seller who posts direct which is also likely to be faster.

I completely agree. I look for sellers who do not use Global. It seems that the majority are US based and as a collector of certain difficult to aquire items I am forced to try to convince certain sellers to just send direct USPS for example. While many do, I have also lost out on many oportunities. Most sellers tell me the use GSP because it is the 'only' safe way. I feel that The sub contracted Pitney Bowles has used Ebay to convince sellers that this is the case when it is not. Thank you very much for your input!

Ebay Globel Shipping Programme does not cover all countries.

If they dont ship to the Canary Islands ( which is not on the list) then you cant use it

You can still buy off other sellers if they post to your country or ask them if they are willing to post too you but it would not be through GSP

The problem is that Ebay have sold Global as the best way and increasingly sellers are using it, particularly in teh US and less and less are willing to send USPS for example. It worked in the past for years but now suddenly I am being shunted off Ebay as a customer for about 80% of all items I am interested in. Soon The Canaries , which contain about two million people, will not be able to use Ebay. It is incredibly unfair in my opinion.

As said not all countries are included in the GSP and that is ebay descision. There must be some reason for that.

As your country is not included then of course you can not use sellers who use GSP but there are others who sell.
Worldwide which you can buy from if they post to the Canary Islands on their listings.

A lot of sellers do have exclusions where they will not sell too certain countries and that is their choice.
I only sell to the UK and that is my choice. Unfair maybe but a lot less hassle

It will certainly not stop two million people from using ebay.

I understand if a seller chooses not to send to a certain country. I also respect that. The problem is that Ebay have convinced many sellers that using Global is the only safe way. This is a marketing strategy to protect the sub contractor, Pitney Bowles. PB do not send the the Canaries, even though it is part of Spain because of the cost implication and slight complexity to make an exception to the import duties which are not due here as the islands have their own rates. They are nevertheless part of Spain and the European community. Pb also denies other potential postal services to be elected by sellers as they have a financial agreement with selected carriers thus creating a monopoly situation which is also unfair in the free market.

You will also find that the vast majority do not use Ebay here. In part because of this and feeling neglected and treated as not a part of the community.

I also respect the exclusions a seller chooses to make. However, one of the principal ideas of GSP is to take out the 'hassle' factor. Thus a seller is not going to have any hassle by using GSP and is also neglected potential clients for those that opt for the system and who are prepared to sell abroad.

It is not and EBay decision, it i sthe decision of Pitney Bowles and Ebay may well not agree if they really understood why this subcontracted company adopts such a policy.

Thank you nevertheless for your input. I will continue petitioning for the system to be made fairer. I have been using Ebay for years as a buyer and a seller and the previous system offered perfect protection and service. I do not see Global as an improvement, just an alternative.
