Since the faulty wheel bearing obviously has to be replaced, you need to get the garage to fit a new one, and then return the faulty one under eBay's money back guarantee policy.

It doesn't have to be returned in the original box, and is still covered even if you have to return it used or damaged, if this use was necessary for the fault to become apparent.

When did you buy this? (PLEASE give dates when asking questions, "recently" means nothing.) It's important to open a money back guarantee case within eBay's timescale of 30 days from delivery. Once the case is open, you will have further time in which to return the item - eBay might even agree to extend this if there is an unavoidable delay in removing the bearing from the vehicle - you would have to contact customer support about this.

Don't waste time negotiating with this seller. Just open the case through the resolution centre: https://resolutioncentre.ebay.co.uk/ To qualify, you must have paid through eBay's checkout by credit or debit card, PayPal or PayPal credit, or Apple Pay or Google Pay.

The seller is allowed 3 business days in which to respond. After that, the option will appear for you to escalate the case, if necessary, for eBay to step in and help. This option remains available for 21 days from the date the case was opened.

EBay will enable the seller to send you a prepaid return label (if the item was located in the UK; this may not apply if the item was located abroad). Once returned, eBay will process your refund.

If the seller doesn't reply or you're not happy with their response, escalate the case. Follow any instructions and time limits carefully, and don't agree to close the case until you have received your refund.

It's one of the problems of buying items which need to be fitted.  There are several things that I would not buy on eBay and motor spares sadly is one.    Anything large [like a bed] too!

The problem is - as you have found - is that if things are fitted it takes them outside the eBay money back guarantee.   I suppose the answer would have been [before fitting] for the mechanic to say "it's the wrong one"

if it's not fit for purpose you are entitled to a full refund regardless of whether you still have the box.   Unfortunately you cannot get recover the cost of fitting the thing unless you take the seller to the small claims court (now money claim online):

To get the original refund start a "not as described" return via More Actions on the far right of your order in Purchase History.   Then escalate it after 3 business days.   If the seller is in the UK ebay will require them to issue a paid-for postage label for you to print and use. And they will enforce the refund after return.
