Faulty hob

I brought a hob in August as I was having an extension and a new kitchen fitted.
This weekend the hob has been fitted (by a qualified electrician) and it does not work. I have contacted hotpoint and given them the code that flashes up and they say that there’s an issue with the circuit board.
I have contacted the seller and requested to return the item and gain a refund. The seller has said that as it is 3 months since I purchased the item he is not prepared to do this. (It’s 3 months because I had no kitchen to test the hob in !)
Where do I stand ? I paid cash on collection for the item

As already said you never had any cover. The Money Back Guarantee is for condition on delivery BUT on condition that you pay by paypal.

Collection items are best paid for in cash as that is safest, but for something that cannot be examined and tested on the spot, before payment, Paypal would have been best, but the MBG is only for 30 days.

Unless the seller was a Business Seller when you could complain to Trading Standards there is nothing you can do.

Sorry there is No Buyer Protection with a Cash Payment. PayPal don't Cover Collection Items under any circumstances.

If the Seller is a Registered Business you could seek Legal Advice.

In that case there is nothing you can do through eBay or PayPal (obviously).

If this was a UK business seller, I would start by asking advice from trading standards. The fact that you've had it for three months doesn't remove your statutory consumer rights.
