I hear that from the end of May, for sales of less than £5 eBay will be charging a fixed fee that when added to other charges will make it unecomical to sell these items - anybody know anything about this ??
As with Paypal, ebay fees under Managed Payments are 12.8% + a fixed 30p fee. That is slightly less than the 10% Fee + Paypal at 2.9% + a fixed 30p.
That is the only fixed fee I have heard of, and is basically exactly the same as Ebay + Paypal Fees.
Low value items are always going to be expensive to sell as the 30p Fixed Fee under either system on a 99p item will make it uneconomical to bother selling.
It is up to sellers to work out costs to see if it is worth the bother.
What exactly did you hear, and where did you hear it?
I haven't heard of any intention to have a single, fixed price fee for all sales below £5.00. I'm sure that eBay would already have announced this, if it's to start from the end of May.
It always has been uneconomical to sell low value items here anyway. Many buyers don't do the arithmetic and end up with only a few pennies from the sale price.
In fact, a fixed price fee based on the cost of the item only could be a good thing for sellers, as the big problem is the 10% fee that eBay charges on the cost of post and packing.
