My eBay history is very similar to yours and I got one of these messages yesterday, following an order to someone from whom I have bought nearly 1000 (small) items overs the years. I shared it with him for a laugh!
It seems to be part of the casualisation of eBay communication which I find most un-businesslike. If they stuck to straightforward formal communication they wouldn't make themselves look foolish in ways like this.
