Ebay 50% off Final Value verses Ebay £1 Max Final Fee.....please explain?

Hi all, I'm sorry for sounding clueless but I would appreciate it if someone could explain all this to me as I'm not getting it at all. 

Today I received a message from Ebay offering 50% off my final value fee of a selling/sold item. Please can you tell me if this offer still works out as a good deal when Ebay and Paypal worked together? As in Ebay got your £1 selling fee and Paypal got their cut.....now Ebay get it all theres no Paypal now. 

An example would be much appreciated please?

for higher priced items it's not as good as the £1 deal, but it is better than no deal at all!

be grateful you have any offers, not everyone gets them.

Oh I am very thankful and appreciate it. I didn't mean to come across as unthankful. I'm just confused about the new system of fees and payments, sorry.
