By mistake, do you mean you now wish to keep the item? Do not close the case for any reason or excuse the seller is giving, you if you wish for a refund, let the case run, and escalate on day 4 f not refunded beforehand.
If this is a new seller, they need to contact Paypal to release their money because their customer, you, need a refund.
if you have decided to keep the item find the case in the Resolution centre, and close it there. You will not be able to open another for that item, with eBay.
Seller's Money is always frozen as soon as a case is opened, that is so that if a refund has to be made money is available. Seller refunds through the return case which releases the money to the buyer.
As tressygirl says, only close the return if you are happy, do not close on any promises of a refund, as once closed te refund won't happen.
