COMBINED POSTAGE

On 2 occassions now I have bid on and won several items from different sellers. When going to the check out I have been given the option to request total from seller.

On both occassions I get an error Error code: 80016

One seller at first said no when I asked and claimed she wouldn't make any money if she reduced the payment. I told her she shouldn't be making money on postage and should therefore start bidding at a higher price. I was then offered 10% off however I still wasn't going to pay over £10.00 for postage which should be no more than about £4.00 (including a cardboard box/jiffy bag) This particular sells items on buy it now and postage is free for each subsequent item but wouldn't carry the same policy to auctioned items.

Anyway the point is Has anyone else seen the error code?

The problem with combining postage is that it is not simple.  Yes 2 items may fit in a jiffy bag but could be fatter thus taking it to "small parcel" at £3.20.  The weight will also increase and may go up into another band.  In the end it depends if a seller does not want to combine - and is not obliged to - whether you really want the items at the total price.

Some business sellers will have the items ready packed waiting for the sticky labels

I would have sent a coaster as a large letter at £1.53 I winced at £3.85 but over £10 for 3 coasters is taking the whatsname! I'll check with the sellers in future.

It is up to the seller to decide

Some would combine and others do not and if they dont then you dont buy.

You ask first

I have not seen that Error code but any good seller would automatically combine prices and send a new invoice.

When you bid/buy you agree to the postage and there is no dispute on ebay for postage

1 point to note with your own listings, they are all "Freepost" so you can't combine P&P, which means if buyer buys 2 items from you, they pay double postage. You can refund some postage, but ebay won't refund fees.

Yes, thank you. I usually just issue a refund or message the buyer to advise of the cheaper option available. ie cheaper to buy a set of 4 than two sets of 2.

I also have a personal account when I have also selected refund.

Thanks for you help. I still don't understand where the error code has come from. I note from a previous comment years ago that someone else had issues with it.

Often when requesting combined P&P, ebay system says seller doesn't, but I found if you send them a message they are happy to do so.
