Buyer has changed mind after item has been sent

I sold an item on thursday. Buyer paid immediately with paypal. I posted it on saturday. It's now monday and the buyer has contacted me for the first time saying that he's sent me multiple cancellation messages (no sign of these at all in my email, spam or ebay messages inbox) and doesn't want it anymore as he's sold the equipment that it could be used with. Ridiculous situation. Clearly regrets the purchase for whatever reason and seems to be inventing stories. My listing clearly has a no returns policy. Where do I stand please?

He's starting to state he has 14 days by law and the bank will force a refund etc etc...

That is rubbish "if" you are a private seller.   There is no right in consumer law unless the seller is a business seller. If the buyer opens a "return" case then - if you refuse - he is not able to open a "not as described" case in eBay. He "might" be able to do so in Paypal.

I do have a slight niggle as to whether - by ebay's rules - you should be classed as a business seller - if so you would need to offer returns [at buyer's expense] in any event.  In my view even if a private seller it is always best to offer to accept returns.  It is - of course - horrendously disappointing but in my view eBay is not all about "sell at all costs".  I know, I know. It's not a view shared by all.
