1: Why do offers get blocked once a bid has been registered?

2. What is the approved way of responding to a request for a buy it now price when auction bids have been received? I have used a work around by terminating the auction and readvertising at a fixed price, cumbersome and time consuming but perhaps I'm missing a simple solution?

There is no simple solution

Offers are available for early buyers to make before a bid is placed at which point offers are removed and an auction starts.

Once an auction has started seller cannot add Buy It Now price the auction has to complete,if you are cancelling auctions with bids on you will still be charged fees by eBay.
