After listing an item 7 days ago not long after I received a bid at the reserve figure through Ebayb and was told to wait untill the listing finished and they would be back in touch so far no contact.??? anybody else received the same also getting bids followed by retractions.

This does happen frequently,  especially if you place a reserve,  bidders may bid and bid until they see the reserve you have set,  find it not to their liking and retract the bids.  Not a valid reason for bid retractions,  but to be honest little is done,  execpt the number of retractions are recorded on that member's profile for all to see,  some see it as  good reason to block these members.

Don't use reserves,  they're expensive,  costing 4% of your set reserve,  and payable sale or no sale.

Just list your items starting for the lowest amount you are happy to receive,  that can act as a ' reserve' as it cannot sell for less,  and there's no extra fee charge here.

I'm sure then,  you will experience fewer bid retractions.

One of your mistakes as to list as a PRIVATE auction, another was to use Reserves.

Both items show as unsold, one didn't reach the reserve and the other had a bid retracted.

You have expensive reserve fees and got no sales. Private Auctions date back to when the buyers ID was shown in full, and allowed Bidders/sellers of embarrassing items to be anonymous. All bidders are anonymous now so this function just hides time wasters, and serves no purpose.

For example I cannot see how many bidders you had just the number of bids, which I suspect was one bidder just bidding to find your reserve price, then retracting.

I suggest you do not use Private auctions then it is more open to members to see the bidding, and not to use Reserves. Start at a price you are happy to sell at and if you wish add BEST OFFER. Costs nothing and a serious buyer may make a good offer.
