Bid and counter bid

i received an offer on an item which I counter offered. Later that evening I recieved another offer from another buyer which was for more so I accepted that. Was I OK to do this as I have recieved a message asking why was the item sold?

Yes you were fine to do that; winner is the first person to hit the 'buy' button or make a decent offer that is accepted. 

You do not need to reply to the message from the other person and if they sound like they might be trouble, add them to your blocked bidder list now.
