Not sure of exact charities but i would opt for either a cancer charity or one for premature babies like Tommys

Re: Unclaimed Prizes - Charity Suggestions

So many good causes ... so hard to choose ... to easy to give all to the huge charities and ignore the smaller needy charities to whom any donation means so much.

I still say let the winning bidder nominate the charity for that auction, or if raffled, let the raffle winner nominate.

If I *KNOW* that my winning bid will go to my chosen
charity then I *WILL* be willing to bid more. Everybody
works a little harder for the cause close to their heart.

Raffles have a BIG advantage - obviously more people can participate, there are other advantages to the raffle too (eBay contact me for details)

It also relieves eBay from the awkward job of deciding
which charities are 'worthy' and which are not.

Re: Unclaimed Prizes - Charity Suggestions

AS EBAY IS A WORLDWIDE ENTERPRISE, AND AS WE MAY HAVE LOST SOME OF OUR ASIAN EBAYERS, I THINK IT WOULD BE FITTING IF EBAY AUCTIONED THE UNCLAIMED GIFTS AND SENT THE MONEY TO HELP THOSE INJURED IN THE TSUNAMI IN ASIA.
AFTER ALL IT IS AT TIMES LIKE THIS WHEN DISASTER STRIKES, THAT EBAYERS AROUND THE WORLD SHOULD UNITE TO HELP OTHERS,I AM SURE THERE ARE THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE DEALINGS WITH PEOPLE IN THESE COUNTRIES, AND THIS WOULD BE A FITTING WAY TO HELP.
OR COULD EBAY START UP A CHARITY FUND FOR THE DISASTER AND EBAYERS WORLDWIDE COULD POST ITEMS FOR SALE,WITH THE PROCEEDS GOING TO THE VICTIMS?
I CONTACTED A NUMBER OF FRIENDS IN THAILAND TO SEE IF THEY WERE O.K. THERE ARE 2 I CANNOT REACH AS THEY ARE IN PHUKET AND MESSAGES ARE DIFFICULT TO GET IN AND OUT.
LET'S SHOW EVERYONE THAT EBAY IS TRULY INTERNATIONAL.

TSUNAMI DISASTER - I agree about SE Asia - these people need all the help they can get. I still can't take it all in myself but please consider donating any money from unclaimed prizes to this disaster fund - it is, after all, a multi-national disaster.

Re: Unclaimed Prizes - Charity Suggestions

I think more would be raised with an auction.

In view of the terrible Tsunami disaster, I feel a large proportion should be sent to children's charities in the countries concerned.

In the UK: Childline and NSPCC

Re: Unclaimed Prizes - Charity Suggestions

I think everyone's mind is probably on the SE Asia disaster at the moment and I'm of the opinion that they need the money now, so even if Ebay choose not to auction prizes for it I would like to see it as a named charity that we can all maybe contribute to as quickly as possible.

Re: Unclaimed Prizes - Charity Suggestions

please dont take offence to this, but the tsuanami disater is all ready receiving millions.
Austraila alone has just donated £3,000,000
I think the smaller charities with dying children, premature babies, and beaten and abused animals should benieft

Re: Unclaimed Prizes - Charity Suggestions

I don't think that the millions that have already been put up are even going to go near helping the victims of the disaster. Thousands dead and more than likely millions will be homeless.

Re: Unclaimed Prizes - Charity Suggestions

sorry but i agree with nalaa its due to big fund raising campaigns like the disaster that smaller charities lose out

this is gonna sound bad but look at it this way.
at most we are looking at probably between £500-£3000 for charity..

to the disaster relief for the se asia disaster its a drop in the ocean.

to a small uk home charity that needs say a mini bus or some special equipment it will make a huge difference.

don't get me wrong i fully agree se asia needs help but the money raised could make a massive difference to another charity.

I this is in no way shoiwng disrespect to the victims nor the people who have lost friends ect on the forum,

Re: Unclaimed Prizes - Charity Suggestions

Can I suggest CHILD VICTIMS OF CRIME. They do a fantastic job of providing gifts, holidays and funding for counselling to children who have been affected by crime i.e. murder, abuse, domestic violence etc.

There are only 2 staff employed by this charity and they do a wonderful job and more money is desperately needed to be able to provide holidays for these innocent children who have had to suffer violence etc.

They are planning to take yet another group of children to Disney in Florida next year if they can raise enough money. They don't get any funding from the government, it all comes from donations and sponsored events.

Has to be donations to all charities dealing with the latest catastrophic disaster in Asia. Auction all unclaimed prizes and send the money raised. Thousands of people have been killed, for goodness sake, thousands more lives will have been changed forever.

Re: Unclaimed Prizes - Charity Suggestions

I agree that the prizes should be auctioned off and the money made donated to charity, but in the spirit of goodwill and the fact that Ebay are a worldwide company, maybe they would be generous enough to match the TOTAL amount made from all the auctions which will double the donation!

What do you all think??

Re: Unclaimed Prizes - Charity Suggestions

Do not want to get political, but, and there is always a big but, our Government should be doing more internally to help our home charities. I am Mum to an 18 yr.old with Aspergers syndrome. Life is hell at times. But I and my husband are coping, sort of, although we have no social life. What has happened in Asia needs our help however small the amount, I am sure that Ebay will donate + I think at this time, their need is far greater than ours.

Re: Unclaimed Prizes - Charity Suggestions

Well done ebay for doing this, the charity i would like to recommend would have to be BLISS - the charity for premature babies. As a mum of premature twins i know how much this charity is needed, When my boys were born they were on different types of machines and all sorts of tubes etc, and we just expect these things to be there, but hospital cannot afford all the equipment and rely on donations of specialist equipment from charities such as bliss, heres there website http://www.bliss.org.uk/

Re: Unclaimed Prizes - Charity Suggestions

The victims of the Tsunami need our help and support whether adult or child - billions of people will be homeless and have lost businesses - they are unlikely to have insurance as we would have here. If we help them, we are likely to save hundreds of lives. £500 is not a drop in the ocean in south east asia - a friend in India started up a small business in India with less than £10. They need immediate help to prevent disease and further death. How can anyone not be moved by what is going on and the scale of the tragedy?
