Re: Unclaimed Prizes - Charity Suggestions

hey all

i think a chrity auction is a great idea

dont kno if any body suggested this but what about medical research... My daughter had menigitis when she was 3 months old and my nephew had this when he was 8, both given only hours to live, thankfully both made a full recovery with no further problems.

i kno neither of them would have made it if it hadnt been for the important medical research done the menigitis trust

i think they are a deservin charity as cases are becoming more frequent especially this time of year
(nov - feb) and i kno from experience that this research is important now and in the furture...they also offer great supprt and advise to parents and carers...

well thats my bit said for another year....lol

Hi All and Elf

I think I tend to agree with most that a children's charity should benefit but would also like for you to consider a couple of other organisations that are also very worthy.

St Thomas Lupus Trust and Also St John's Ambulance Brigade.

Great idea

:)

Re: Unclaimed Prizes - Charity Suggestions

how about donating to the p.d.s.a. they get no government funding whatsoever, and have to rely on people like us to help out any way we can.
i gave my local shop, 100 items of jewellery, complete with c.o.a.
within two hours they had sold out and made £1,000
this is because they helped my dog once when he was attacked by alsatians, who were trying to attack my son.
he led them away from michael and saved his life.
bruno died last year at the ripe old age of 18, not bad for a cross breed of rotweiller and labrador, had lovely funeral service for him where we scattered his ashes, with a crowd of over 200 people including three of the vets from out local p.d.s.a. who paid their respects.
lets help the p.d.s.a. out a little more
thanks
sandra

Re: Unclaimed Prizes - Charity Suggestions

I have to say "The Tiny Lives Campaign" in Bristol. It's a baby care unit for premature babies, born anywhere upto 20 weeks early. They are small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. The unit at the moment though, is hot, crowded and very differcult to maintain a high standard of cleanliness within.

The appeal is looking to rebuild the majority of the unit, and serves the whole of the south west. They have saved so many children in the past, but with the improvements, they can do so much more.

Once you see the fantastic work of the nurses and doctors on this ward, and the amount the babies and families of new born babies go through, you can't help but feel you have to do something.

In the words of the campaign, EVERYONE CAN MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE TO A TINY LIFE.

There are just so many stories of successful children's charities in desperate need of money, I know this is 1 in a million, and everyone has a story.

Don't envy the task the elves have in deciding which charities will benefit 😞

Re: Unclaimed Prizes - Charity Suggestions

I still think the money should go to all the orphaned children in this country but as (like this comp!) you can never please everyone then perhaps the suggestion that the winner nominates a Registered Charity of their own choice, would appease most, it would be easy for ebay to check that the charity is legit & then send a cheque off, and what another great PR exercise for ebay eh?!

Re: Unclaimed Prizes - Charity Suggestions

Does it matter whether UK or Overseas!! Does it matter whether it's a children's charity, animal or adult!! Charity = Need. I think all prizes should be sold in auction format and cash raised to be equally divided between all charities mentioned. Every little helps and I am sure that the charities would rather have something then nothing!! Hopefully, all charities will benefit this way be it small or large and everyone effected directly or indirectly by these charities will be pleased. 🙂

Re: Unclaimed Prizes - Charity Suggestions

i would have to say cancer research. yes, xmas is for kids but charities are for everyone. i see more sense in giving to a charity that is trying to actually change outcomes as opposed to charities who try to make outcomes easier, no offense intended to anyone.

merry xmas to all.

Re: Unclaimed Prizes - Charity Suggestions

#168 Who cares if its a PR exercise Im damn sure that the charities who benefit wont. As for the winner of the auction deciding which charity the funds go to, it wont only be the winner who will have bumped up the price of that auction, hence everyone should have an input

Re: Unclaimed Prizes - Charity Suggestions

I had suggected ABCD as it is a charity directly connected to Christmas (birth of Christ - children in Palestine) but having seen the disaster unfolding in the wake of the earthquake and resultant tsunami I think that the money ought to go there.
The Red Cross have launched an appeal:

Re: Unclaimed Prizes - Charity Suggestions

May I suggest CHILDREN with LEUKAEMIA as a charity to donate as I lost my cousin to the disease this year and feel this charity doesn't get as much publicity as say the NSPCC and CAFOD.
The money can go towards finding a cure for this disease and helping the poor children unfortunate to contract it.
Thank You

Re: Unclaimed Prizes - Charity Suggestions

A happy and healthy new year to you all. I agree, the prizes should be auctioned. I think the proceeds should go to famine relief and the red cross to help the victims across SE Asia and the families of tourists caught up in the awful floods following the tsunami.

Re: Unclaimed Prizes - Charity Suggestions

How about auctioning the unclaimed prizes on eBay, then asking the winning bidder of each item to name the charity of their choice, for the money raised from that item to go to. This way lots of charitys will benefit, from local hospices to large national organisations and maybe event he families who fell vicitim to Tsunami...just a thought!

Wessex Children's Heart Circle http://www.wchc.org.uk/ For children born with congenital heart defects and treated at Southampton General Hospital. Children from the South of England, Channel Islands, Isle of Wight and as far away as Wales. They have a residential unit for families to stay while their sick child is on the unit.

My own daughter spent the first 3.5 weeks of her life there undergoing surgery from which she made a full recovery and is just about to celebrate her 15th Birthday in good health thanks to the care received at the hospital.
