Tell us your Treasure Hunting story

My story:

I started when the clues actually meant something. It was good fun trying to work them out and I came very close on many occasions to winning (within the top 10 page views) because I was USING LOGIC to work out the answers. That was when the competition ~was~ a treasure hunt and everyone had a decent chance of winning if they worked out the clue fast enough AND possessed just a little bit of rational thought.

However over the last few days things have become pathetic. This isn't a treasure hunt any more, it's just a case of refreshing and racing to the prize. Loads of people seem to think this is for the better too, obviously because they're too stupid to work out clues for themselves and feel that 'a competition for retards' gives them a better chance...

I suppose stupid people should get a chance at winning stuff too, they've already been punished enough already. I suppose it's good for them when they race blindly to a listing and feel that they've done well in getting there at number 60...

Oh well, it was good fun while it lasted.

Okay, mushy story alert here...so if you aren't up for that, don't read.

I declare Ebay the guardian of my sanity the last days (in some ways, at least, figuring out clues is a whole different insanity!). You see, I was really down and even would say depressed, anxiety attacks and everything. Won't get into it but it wasn't pretty.

Then, the day the watches were up for prizes I got into the hunt and thought it was brilliant! It kept my mind busy, I had fun, was thinking on other stuff than bad stuff and basically had a way better day!

And I met some really nice people here, have been chatting in the same thread and had a good laugh there as well.

Sure enough I haven't won anything (and actually lost money on some sales I did through a friends account - I just have a buyer account- when I tried get some money to buy Christmas pressies) but the important thing is that I have been having fun, which is a first in weeks, and feel a lot better!

So thank you Ebay, for your generosity, your initiative, this forum, and for coming up with all those strange clues and all!

I even reached one of the prizes as nr 15 and feel all proud of that :-D.

Oh, and thanks as well for mentioning me under the Mince Pies :^O *beams*

This is a real challenge, esp for a Duchie. Brilliant!

VERY URGENT *** Please can you help me ! On Day one of the treasure hunt I 'bought' this item : 3945755075 thinking it was so obviously not a real item that it must be the treasure .
I bought and paid for it (£77.77 even the amount seemed fictitious) thinking it was necessary to complete the transaction in order to win. (Remember this was the first day and I had not even found the community board then !) I was re-assured that I would not have to pay and expected that it would not go from my Paypal account.
The next morning I received an e-mail to say that it was fraud and that the seller had been suspended.
As pensioners my husband and I were unsure what to do. We phoned our bank (as you would usually do to stop a payment) but were told to contact Paypal.
We did so and waited 10 days for seller's response, even tho' we knew he had been suspended.
Tonight we were told (by e-mail) that although the seller was at fault, they could not get money from him.So we contacted e-bay and were given loads of 'steps to take' etc etc which we are finding very difficult to follow, and takes more waiting time. And we will still lose £15 even if we get our complaint upheld and a refund.Or so it seems.
Surely this is VERY unfair. If it had not been a treasure hunt I would never have 'bought' an item located in Elves Village Greenland !!! If I had paid by cheque or credit card I would have been able to cancel it. But I used the protection of Paypal ! What protection ?? This has turned into a nightmare. What happened to the good of the community and the values of e-bay ?

Please can you answer this and warn others. And tell me how Paypal is better at offering protection to buyers like myself.

Have been struck by the bug! Have just joined the fray tonite. Am I mad? The stories are hilarious and I can feel myself booking into the nearest mental hospital after Christmas. B*GG*R Detox. Have already bitten my husband for not telling me to log in first. Found the 11pm Chicken Run dvd, missed it, ranted, then felt a bit stupid that it was a hoax. Has probably saved my marriage tho!!!

This is a waste of time. The clues have no link to the final answers whatsoever. It is just random rubbish.

The clues are getting easier. The explanations are at http://forums.ebay.co.uk/thread.jsp?forum=2005&thread=200115198&modified=1103221610180. If they don't get easier, I get to hit the clue maker on the head. Repeatedly. With my very own special plank.
