Empty?  Lol.

You realise you have to refill them, right?  (or swap for full ones if I'm being pedantic)

47KG Gas bottle for £50 on eBay now.

I pay £37.50 including P&P for a 47kg canister with one working day delivery, so wont be buying off ebay.

Actually you are not allowed to sell the bottles, you rent them from the gas company and they are not for resale

I know - but you can often find them at car boots empty for a tenner - which is the cheapest way of then exchanging them for a full one and avoiding the inital deposit!

I am talking about the smaller ones there - having had several touring caravans also I have gone through rather a lot in my time 🙂

In the summer months one bottle will last about six months, winter time I use about one per month, and that is with not skimping on the heating, If you have the boiler running 24/7 during the winter you will use one bottle a fortnight,  altogether I use 7 bottles a year, that comes to £262.50 for all heating cooking and washing.

Yes that's right, the size of the bottle is irrelevant, as long as you have a bottle to exchange you can swap it for whatever size you want, you just pay for the gas.

`Something i never thought of before`

and thank the lord for that, what an idiot!!

and what the hell makes you think you`ll save money?

even though it would`nt work, because the mains pressure is completely different to the bottled pressure, the boiler uses what it uses at the pressure it needs, so it will use gas at the same rate surely and even if it did work at the lower pressure used in a bottle, it won`t work properly because it`s not designed to work that way!

i seriously hope you don`t have family or neighbours to worry about, because thats the most dumb idea i`ve ever heard anyone come out with laughing

Obviously the boiler has a gas pressure in take. It won't take it direct from the Bottle! Lol. I'm still learning.

Mr lemon-p already has stated he is using gas bottles. This forum discussion is 5 years old.

OP I don't normally comment on here, I'm a reader usually.

However, I feel complelled to reply to you about this topic.

Firstly no body should ever mess about with gas installations or electrictricity for that matter, both have the ability to kill people and cause dreadful distruction, so unless you are a qualified and certified gas engineer, I advice you to get this horrific idea out of your head.

Secondly, if you are living in rented accomadation, be it via social housing or a private landlord, you would have to, by law, seek their permission before you even attempt such a rediculous thing.

Are you aware that if you were to attempt your experiment and it went tragically wrong and caused a massive explosion causing loss of life, you would be held responsible, if you were still alive that is! You would probably be arrested and charged with manslaughter? Aside from that, you would also have to live with knowing that lives were lost due to your utter stupidity!

Of course, we all seek to try to save money and keep our costs down, but in some circumstances, this being one of them, safety, of not only you, but of everyone around you must be paramount to all else.

Contact your local council and ask if you can apply for any grants for things like loft insulation and things like that, I know that some councils offer these to their residents.

Ask your energy supplier to come and visit your home and give advice on fuel saving tips.

But PLEASE! PLEASE! do not even think about your horrific idea anymore, not minding if you blow yourself out of this World is one thing, but you have NO right whatsoever to place others at risk.

Sorry for caps peeps, but I feel they're needed here.

Can I just point out that the OP's question is a perfectly valid one, there is nothing illegal or dangerous about converting to LPG as long as the installation is completed by a qualified engineer.

I have been using LPG for over 30 years, (wouldn't dream of going back to mains gas)  I installed my own boiler and cooker, BUT I was a qualified gas engineer at the time of the installation.

I think this discussion board is quite possibly the best source of advice on eBay selling that you could find. However, I'd be as likely to look for advice on gas-fired heating here as I would be to seek medical advice from my newsagent.

I understand totally what you're saying, the question is a valid one, but only if it's completed properly and by a certified gas engineer, you were qualified to do the alterations that you did at that time, so my post is in no way a criticism of anyone who is/was qualified.

What concerns me greatly is that OP sounds like, not only is he not qualified to carry out this task, but also seems to have very limited understanding or knowledge about the task, in my opinion he should not be even contemplating doing it.

I only have one thing that I'm not in agreement with you on and that is that you say it's not dangerous, I accept and understand that for you it obviously wasn't because you knew what you were doing, but I'm standing by my statement that no one who is unqualified should even be thinking of doing this, there have been devastating events in this country where people have been found to have been attempting to fiddle around with gas and electricity and have made the most awful mistakes.
