hello everyone , im thinking of seeing my GP about possible HRT . Ive suffered for about 5 years with dizziness, weight gain, loss of libido etc. This was put down to thyroid problems as it was about then i was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism.Anyway, latest symptom to rear its ugly head is anxiety and im really struggling with it every day.
At work last week someone raised the subject of menopause which got me thinking.........ive had one proper night sweat, periods just starting to not be regular and migraines.
my question is , have any of you suffered anxiety as a symptom of peri menopause ? would HRT help ?
thankyou

Ahhh it seems lots of us are suffering on here. Ive had about four years of exactly the same. Had my Hormone level tested and im in the perimenopause hun. Get a Blood test done,,, i have had another done this week. I have had crippling migraines and never had them before in my life ,,with sickness and vomiting for about 14 hrs in a day when i get migraines. Thats how they started. And my periods are all over the place,, i miss months and months and then get one. Ask your doctor to get a Hormone Blood Test and my doctor has put me on Amitriptyline to take every night ,then i have another Imigran pill to take when the Migraine comes!. I get dizziness, confusion majorly, i cry at the drop of a hat and get emotional and my anxiety has got very bad. You may find the symtoms if you are in perimenopause can go away for weeks and then come back again but dont be scared your not alone. I have got very scared at times but please please see your doctor!!!.. You can go on HrT but im not at the moment as i have cancer in my family and im a bit nervous about taking it.

I was on HRT for over ten years & only felt bad when I came off it. I felt great while taking it but when you stop you can get a bit down & the flushes kick in then. I don't regret taking at all bit though.

Luckily I hardly noticed the menopause at all. I don't think I would have been advised to take HRT either, the same as I couldn't take the pill. I'm not built for those types of medication apparently!

I had an emergency 'removal of bits' just before I was 50 so I was put on it in hospital.

I was given it but haven't taken it after reading about side effects, Doctor asked me what was wrong I told him he wrote me a prescription for HRT job done. didn't take bloods, talk me through it anything. So I just put up with hot flushes and night sweats, about the only symptoms I have. I eat plenty of fresh fruit, make sure I eat things with calcium and iron in them and get on with it, plenty of friends have used it with no problems, but I am still unsure regarding the side effects. Make sure you talk it through with the doctor otherwise you will come out feeling more confused than before.
Good luck.

Some women dont have any trouble at all and im envious. But i had another friend whose anxiety, nerves ect got very bad so i know im not alone and neither are you hun. The doctor put me on Amitriptyline for Migraines but said that it will ease other symptoms aswell like flushes and nerves. There are various things though,, your doctor may advise something else. Let us know how you get on!!.
