granddaughter's crafting

my granddaughter is down on holiday and she wanted to craft like nanny .she is 9 years and has never picked up a needle and cotton before but this is her first attempts and apart from starting her cotton and finishing it for her she did everything else herself.i am well chuffed with her efforts and also it has given me an idea what to get her for christmas.

Re: granddaughter's crafting

Well done her :). My granddaughter started crafting on saturdays when she was with me, so one christmas, when she was about 9-10 I decorated a big cardboard box and filled it with little cross stich kits, nlank cards & card making embellishments, starter knitting kit etc, she loved it. She's now 13 & last christmas she asked her mum for a sewing machine & sewing box. She now has the best dressed rabbits in Kent 🙂

Re: granddaughter's crafting

For this coming Christmas I've bought my two granddaughters a sewing machine each. One's bright red and one's purple, not quite full size.  They'll both be 9 in November and January.  I've got plastic boxes and am putting in, scissors, pins, needles, tape, buttons, fabric, tape measures and children's instruction books.  They've both made little things before, so whether they'll have the patience to learn or not  remains to be seen.

Well done cookie's granddaughter, I think all that blanket stitch would have proved too boring for my two!  .Smiley Wink

Re: granddaughter's crafting

Gosh they're lovely, it's amazing what children can achieve, given half the chance.

You never know where it may lead either, I began my lifelong love of crafts when

I went to my first Guide camp and we did allsorts of crafts.  I've been very crafty

ever since!

Well to Cookie's granddaughter.  I agree - start them young with crafting.  I think it's brilliant.
