It never ceases to amaze me, that every bank holiday people crowd into the supermarkets and buy so much food and drink! what on EARTH do they do with all that food and drink??? and it's always BBQ time.....
oh, and peeps get ruder and ruder as the supermarket gets more crowded....
what happens to people when food gets involved??

Think it is crowds and being in a hurry that causes it. That and the appalling service and surroundings one gets in the majority of supermarkets these days. Not sure just why(apart from monopoly) but the shopping conditions have really gone downhill in the last 10 years.

I know times have changed, but when I left school in 1970, I went to work in a department store and you were not allowed to talk to your colleagues; the manager was really keen and would think nothing of giving someone a dressing down in front of the customers. Nowadays, I go into shops and supermarkets and sometimes have to wait for the assistants to finish talking before they even think of serving me!
And I agree, why on earth do people go crazy with food when its a bank holiday; most shops and supermarkets are open every day anyway.
Hate the smell of barbies by the way.

I hate everything about barbecues after getting very drunk and very sick out of boredom at one when i was young LOL.
They are rude in shops now, when i was in retail you had to stand ,behave approach every customer politely and i never swore. Oh and dress nicely in our uniform.

It's not just Asian shops. We have a few around here - some are absolutely abysmal, whereas others are absolutely lovely, friendly helpful and efficient. "Asian" is an unfair catch-all, which is not necessarily representative of the entire nation/culture.
If you shop in some of the larger supermarkets, many "white-Brits" also display this couldn't-care-less attitude, nattering to each other, etc. I just stand there (pointendly) with my money, and wait for them to finish their conversation (at the same time apologising to the queue building up behind me). Then usually make some sort of comment: "Sorry to drag you away from that scintillating conversation" or "How nice of you to concentrate on your customers".
At the end of any transaction, I will say "Thank you", stand and wait for a reciprocal response.
Am I turning into a grumpy old woman?
Yes, probably

I REALLY DO NOT LIKE THE SELF SERVICE TILL THING THATS IN NOW, I SUPPOSE WE ARE DOING THEIR JOB, BEFORE LONG THERE WILL NOT BE ANYONE THERE IN THE SHOPS OR IT WILL ALL BE DONE VIRTUALLY OR ON LINE LOL. THE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE WHO SAY WE ARE KEEPING SOMEONE IN WORK BY USING THE TILLS WITH CASHIERS STILL WORKING AT THEM IS ABUNDANT!!!.

Hi Pix. Glad you found your way back! I am not backward in saying what I think in shops either.

If I am waiting to pay for anything in shop and the assistants are just having a general chat, I have been known to say 'Are you paid to stand there and talk or are you paid to serve me?' I look at in the way that my money is good anywhere.
