waking up every 1/2 hour in tears with pain. slightest movement more tears  Dr gave me tamiflu which reduces the symptems of flu by a day or so

now i'm nearly over it but i feel funny!! don't know wether to go back to Dr. it seems silly there's nothing i can put my finger on except i can't sleep in bed    sitting in a chair i can sleep

Dangerous to ask for medical advice on the internet.

I have had Flu and it sounds like you have got a good old dose of it. It could just be that in bed you can move more as when I had it just bending arms and legs hurt, in a chair you'll not move as much.

At the very least I would call your Dr and ask if you should come in, may give you some anti-inflammatories for the joint pain.

Dear Fiona, I am not supposed to be here, currrently on retreat, brain not working so well.  REAL flu is just as you describe and it can take you weeks to get over it.  Tamiful is anti viral and is made to help suppress the worst symptoms.  I doubt very much you'll be back to work this week.

Did you have a flu jab in the winter?

I think we are just about at the 'peak' time for flu - I know a little bit about it because my immune system couldn't cope with it and I was advised to steer well clear of anyone coughing for example.

People say they've 'had the flu' and no they have not they have had a bad cold.  As you now know, there is a  massive difference, it really does poleaxe you.  Promise me you will call your GP in the morning for some reassurance.  Meantime, when I had it, keep warm, lots of fluids, and throat lozenges if you have a cough.  He will advise you what to take for pain, NSAIDs or plain old paracetamol to keep your temp down.  Hope you feel better soon, look after yourself XXX.

Sorry that you've not been well Fiona.  As Rainy says, please ring your GP this morning and tell him how you feel.

It really annoys me as well when people who have cold will insist that they have flu.  They are different viruses entirely.  When you've had flu, you know very well it's not the same as a cold.  The last time I had it was about 11 years ago and it took a good while to get over it.

Hope that you feel better soon Fiona.  (((((Fiona))))) Gentle hugs of course.

flu can really take it out of you,

i seem to remeber yu have diabetes too,  so I would definitely  be checking with the Doc

i think a few more days of work  will be better than going back too early

i had flu as a teenager, even using the bathroom was difficult, i was in bed , slept most of the time,  out of it about 2wk took a few more before i was near feeling  myself

My sister in law had it, and she's still poorly weeks later. It takes a long time to get back to normal. Maybe, when you get back into the routine of going to work you will settle down and be able to sleep. Hope you feel better soon.

Apparently this this years flu jab has been a dud . They have to guess a year ahead what strain will be the major problem, and produce a vaccine with 2 signatures. Unfortunately this years flu strain isn't one of the two picked so they reckon it has only protected 3% of people ( rather than the 50% it usually protects)

Used to have an endless stream of people coming to the pharmacy saying they had flu. I had to bite my tongue to stop saying " No you haven't.. if you had flu you wouldn't be here "

Give your doctor a ring. it is often more difficult to breathe lying down when you have had flu/cold/etc as your insides press against your diaphragm. So make your self comfortable and sleep in your chair, or try a couple of extra pillows so you are more upright in bed.

Had flu twice in my life and I had just enough strength to crawl from the bed to the bathroom and back. After a week I got the doctor out ( remember when they used to come out when you phoned!) because I had got a chest infection and needed some antibiotics. His definition of having flu was if you have flu and you saw a twenty pound note on the floor you wouldn't be bothered about picking it up!
