Not much after such a big lunch, maybe a turkey sandwich & a bit of triffle
11-12-2013 10:23 PM
Turkey sandwich, has to be, though usually a bit later, more like 8ish

Probably a ham or turkey roll or sandwich. Not until about eight though as we will have been nibbling all day.

We usually have cold meat and salad. Not too late as the children don't go to bed much later than normal. We have lunch at one and tea between 5 and 6. Hubby will still go to bed at ten.

cold meats sausage rolls pork pie salad pickle onions cold pigs in blankets cold stuffing pate cheese board nuts fruit mince pies trifle chocolog christmas cake.
sorry you asked.we get all this out and everybody helps themselves.then we put 90 % of it back in fridge

Exactly cookie. We all do it, we all get far too much food in and apart from the odd one that can eat anything at any time, we just don't want it. And isn't it lovely when we get back to ordinary stuff like egg and chips!!

I always like beans or cheese on toast after all the rich food. I am being a bit more frugal this year though & trying not to overdo things.

In my youth our house was where many single relatives would gather for dinner etc at Christmas, dinner was at lunchtime and then supper would be about 8.00 pm
The supper table would groan with the food which included a whole ham and it was a standing joke never to be the last one to help themselves of anything as there would be nowhere to put the plate down, you had to try and pass it on to someone else.

We'll just normally have a turkey salad and a small amount of trifle at around 5.30 as we always have our Christmas lunch at around 12-12.30.
It annoys me that the amount of shopping people get in when the majority of it will never get eaten. It's such a waste. Some people buy food just before Christmas like there's going to be a siege. After all, the supermarkets are only closed for a couple of days and some of the smaller shops are open on Boxing Day.

A xmas dinner butty of course ............... so everything you had on your plate at lunch time except that it's now stuffed between two slices of nice fresh bread
12-12-2013 7:44 AM
Trifle and/or cake! Anybody who wants anything else needs to make it themselves.
I always stock for a siege. Apart from bread and milk I don't food shop until well into January - I look on it as a holiday.

I just buy my usual shop , with maybe a few extras for the turkey roast.....
Even if i wanted to do a huge shop, i dont.. no where to put it all!

We do buy a few little extras just before Christmas like cream for the trifle. We normally stock up in winter any way in case we get snowed in.

Hubby is usually sound asleep and goes to bed. If I am up and hungry I will have a bit of leftovers or a mince pie or something like that. But things may be different this year. Off to have a test for Diabetes tomorrow so will have to sort of rethink my diet.
12-12-2013 10:58 AM
Usually just put some nibbles on the table so people can help themselves when they feel like it.
12-12-2013 12:07 PM
We usually eat about, 2 or 3 or 4 depending on how early I get up, so we will probably have cheese and biscuits about 8 or 9 if we are not asleep.
Boxing day we eat at 12 as mum has diabetes and needs to eat regularly, so we then have tea, all sorts plonked on the table and everyone helps themselves, nothing special, cake, mince pies, sausage rolls etc.
3 of us Christmas day and 5 on boxing day so don't need to buy much except christmassy bits.

When my family was together with my mum and dad ( god bless), we used to have turkey sandwhiches, sausage rolls, mince pies sort of buffet food really, help yourself sort of thing. Yummy Yummy
