I've been run over - and by an ambulance!.
After an emergency trip to A & E to sort out my calcium, was leaving the hospital, crossing the road on the zebra crossing. Ambulance came flying round the corner, blue light and siren going and he ran into my wheelchair.
I rather think that the wheelchair is a write off, it's all bent and twisted and the battery casing has split. The cushion might be salvagable, but not much else. I'd only just replaced the tyres too!
A lot of scrapes and bruises, but the main injury is to my dignity. Unfortunately the pump for my dressing has been smashed, so the hospital have had to find me a replacement.
Oh well, at least it hasn't been a boring day - I was only planning a trip to Asda.

Well, it's been a busy day. Very stiff and sore, didn't feel like moving much so have stayed put.
The ambulance crew who witnessed the accident and who got me into A & E popped in to leave their written statements with me. The rabbi who also witnessed the accident also popped in to make sure that I had his contact details.
Heathwatch have been brilliant - they are contacting the ambulance trust management and are sorting out getting the cctv footage. They asked what I wanted most, I said my wheelchair to be replaced and for a written apology.
The A & E consultant has been in to see how I am, also the staff from tissue viability, X Ray, one of the plastic surgery consultants, three orthopaedic consultants, the sister from the orthopaedic outpatients dept, the staff from orthotics, the maxillo-facial consultant, the outreach nurses plus my own consultant, registrar, SHO and F1.
Supposed to be at a meeting with the local council tomorrow, but will see how I feel first thing.

Sounds like you're bruised from head to foot, with all that lot coming in to check.
When I got run down by a pratt on a bike, the advice from the maxillo-facial surgeon who looked at my monster black eye was to get pictures of the damage before it faded, for the record. Have you got anyone who can do that for you?

Thanks for the suggestion duck - the hospital medical photographer is coming tomorrow to take photos of "the hole", so I will get him to taks pictures of the scrapes and bruises too.

Stroppy, you certainly have had plenty of people to check on you thankfully. Just want to say that I'm still thinking of you and hopefully you get things sorted asap.

Still feeling stiff, sore and disinclined to move very much.
Got the big boss from the ambulance trust coming today.
Order has been placed for new wheelchair, I'll worry about how to pay for it later.

Crikey Stroppy, what a horrid thing to happen to you. There is one thing though that
I guess you can be grateful for and that is that it was your wheelchair that was written
off and not you. I hope you feel much better soon and that your new chair doesn't take
long to arrive. Thankfully you were in the best place for something like that to happen
and they got to check you over very quickly.
Hugs,
Fishy
