I've been run over - and by an ambulance!.
After an emergency trip to A & E to sort out my calcium, was leaving the hospital, crossing the road on the zebra crossing. Ambulance came flying round the corner, blue light and siren going and he ran into my wheelchair.
I rather think that the wheelchair is a write off, it's all bent and twisted and the battery casing has split. The cushion might be salvagable, but not much else. I'd only just replaced the tyres too!
A lot of scrapes and bruises, but the main injury is to my dignity. Unfortunately the pump for my dressing has been smashed, so the hospital have had to find me a replacement.
Oh well, at least it hasn't been a boring day - I was only planning a trip to Asda.

Just don't ever go out in a thunder storm! Not without rubber drawers on anyway!
I hope your bruises heal quickly and insurance supplies a new chair promptly. The ambulance driver must have been very shaken too

Good grief Stroppy! Whatever next! Hope you can get a replacement chair asap. What did the ambulance people have to say?

The chair isn't the biggest problem - I do have a spare, not as good as my main chair and a bit tatty, but it will let me get about.
It will take about 6 weeks or so to get a replacement chair, the Xmas holiday might affect things though.
Haven't even thought about claiming yet - the ambulance crew never even spoke to me, they were (quite rightly) concerned with the patient that they were carrying. I will contact Healthwatch tomorrow, they can help me to sort it out.

I don't think that's right!!! You were on a crossing, you are in a wheelchair. Just because they have a patient on board doesn't mean they needn't be careful!! What's more, THEY, more than most, knew that crossing was there, they must pass it 20 times a shift. They also know there's more chance of people on crutches, people with mobility problems and people in wheelchairs in the vicinity. To be honest, I know they have a difficult job, but they should be at least reprimanded by their superiors if not the police!!
Discusted of Suffolk!!

Your statement "the crew never even spoke to me" actually means they could be charged by the police for leaving the scene of an accident without leaving particulars.
You know what will happen is they will say you were not on the crossing to try and get away with not paying out anything, they will try and lay the blame fully on you.
Sirens and blue lights flashing do not give them the right ot go flying about without due care and attention, in fact I do believe I raed somewhere that ambulance drivers and fire engine drivers can actually get done for speeding and going through red lights although they never are.
Hope you will feel a lot better soon and get a new chair.

Hope you are not to stiff and sore today and feel better soon

Oh Stroppy just heard, how are you feeling this morning, hope you arn't too stiff and bruised.
Keep smiling.

Glad you are ok.....

THEY, more than most, knew that crossing was there, they must pass it 20 times a shift.
I would agree, patient on board or not, there is still a requirement to take appropriate care.
Not exactly useful to save the life of one person by killing another.
Hope you get sorted soon, personally I would be very angry at such treatment.

Hope you aren't too sore today from your ordeal Stroppy. xxxx And I agree about the driver they should have known better.
26-11-2013 12:00 PM
OMG stroppy why does it always happen to you ...hope your ok & only your pride is hurt ,& you can get them to buy you a replacement chair ..
26-11-2013 12:16 PM
Oh dear Stroppy - everything seems to happen to you - as if you didn't already have enough to deal with.
Agree with what others have said - ambulance driver should have known better, and should have checked you out as well as his patient.
I do hope that the authorities are taking this very seriously and that your chair etc is replaced quickly.
It also goes without saying that I hope you aren't injured, although you don't actually mention physical 'damage'

hope you are feeling better today
there was probably cctv in the area , usually exits are covered
