Working in a charity shop

So......I told my son about four weeks ago that during the long summer holiday I would like him to work as a volunteer in a charity shop as I didn't want him festering in front of the computer for six weeks.....I got the usual teenage moodiness and long chin saying that he didn't want to etc etc.

So.............this morning I dragged him kicking and screaming to the charity shop.....just to give him an hour or so to see whether he wanted to do this. Still moody LOL. He even told the shop manager he didn't want to be there (the usual actions of a hormonal 15 year old).  Anyway after two hours I went back to pick him up and he asked if I could leave as he was in the middle of something and would get the bus home. Even looked happier and I heard him talking to the shop manager about coming in on Wednesdays.

I think he went in determined not to like volunteering...but looked as if just the opposite was happening.

I will wait and see what he says when he gets home....I do hope he takes to it as not only will it stop him festering away but will also give him something useful to put on his CV.

Tintin junior (aka Alex) has just walked in the door having spent approximately five hours in the shop. Big smile on his face and telling me all about what he has been doing - me thinks that that is a very good sign.  He has even brought home with him a PSP which he is going to charge up and check that it is working before taking it back tomorrow 🙂  As it is a brain injury shop - certain things might make him realise just how lucky he is to be in very good health. Nice that he will be able to make new friends who are adults rather than his peers at school. Well done to my son - I am one very proud mum

I volunteer in a 'local' charity bookshop.

I started when I was made reduntant and cannot believe how 'entertaining' it is - chat/gossip from the other volunteers and meeting the customers.

A great morning out each week!
