What is it? Is it the weather, stupidity or incompetance???

I've just about had it with bad, inconsiderate and appaling driving.

Yesterday - a tourist stradding a junction because she couldn't decide where to do, when she did decide and pulled away couple of hundred yards later she slowed down to read a map and then just stopped in the middle of the road.

Three incidents today. First was on my way to work and there is a traffic calming bit by a row of houses where there is single width access onto the next piece of road, I have priority (large signs showing who has priority) and this idiot womain (40-50ish driving a Belingo van thing) refuses to stop, nearly hits me and then is screaming at me!, the bloke behind her pulls in and starts mouthing off at me until I point out the very clear signs shoiwing who has the priority and adding if he read the road he wouldn't have to read the signs!

Coming home I get shouted at by a bus driver because I didn'e wait in the wider bit of a country lane - strangely driving a car I don't have the same advantage as him of being able to see over the top of the hedge to be able to see what is coming, as I edged past him he is swearing at me because he had to 'slam the brakes on' - I didn't have to brake hard, probably becaise I was driving to the road conditions .

Third incident, turn off the main road and almost drive into a car that is broadsided across the lane, while they (tourists again are reading the map).

Don't even get me started on this week.  Nearly had at least half a dozen not looking pedestrians, a workman who was walking down the road and just ambled out in front of me causing me to stop and who then got into his van parked on the pavement at the crossroads and waited for the little green man before driving onto the road and doing a Uey - pedestrians scatter well when disturbed. Final straw today I am loading food from trolley into boot and some **bleep** beeps me to get out of his way - whilst i know my bum is big it ain't that big.  Think it's the weather.

What is it? Is it the weather, stupidity or incompetance???

Last Friday when I was coming home after going for my swim, I am driving down a main road.  There was a learner driver half way out of a side road.  I couldn't pull out to miss her because of oncoming traffic.  When it was clear for me to move past the learner driver, she pulls out in front of me.  I had to slam on and that is the one and only time I have ever blown my horn at a learner driver in 35 years of driving.  If she'd have been on her driving test, she would have failed straight away and rightly so.  Just hope that she's not there again in the morning or else I think that I might be had up for murdering a certain driving instruct.  Woman Frustrated

Every day on the way to or from work ( a 10 minute walk at most ) I can guarantee to see at least two or three near misses at one particularly heavily abused mini roundabout; a location which has seen numerous prangs over the years.  Quite often I will see one at one of the other junctions on the way to work.  Meanwhile, I have lost count of the number of dented railing sections in the vicinity...

That's another thing that annoys me - roundabouts including the stupid mini efforts.  Why is that some people think that my car is invisible when I'm on a roundabout or any other road for that matter.  One of the roundabouts in town attracts idiots who seem to think that it is ok to go into the left hand lane when then happen to be turning right.  The number of times I've had to slam on so they won't take the front of my car off.  There's also a stretch of dual carriageway in our town where people belt along like a bat out hell on the right hand side - and they want to turn left at the roundabout at the end of the dual carriageway.  I'll leave it to everyone's immagination what the reactions of the drivers are when you won't let them in.

We had probs getting round Treliske roundabout this morning :)Some lady had gone the wrong way off a bus lane to turn right but she'd changed her mind and those in the right lane had to wait against the traffic lights. That ubiquitous shell on top of the car said it all.Traffic signs are the same all over UK ,but that thing on top of the car must drain their brains I think.

one of the problem with the wrong one-way drivers is that the no entry sign is about 5 ft too  high,

you swing round a corner after some traffic lights, climb a hill of sorts only 3 or 4 ft but you can see  junctions left and right ,

the left turn used to be the correct way to go but isnt anymore,  they put the no entry sign at the top of the pole on the corner but it doesnt reall face the way the traffic comes

some people with older sat navs insist on following the road round as their instructions tell them to

then insist they are in the right

ive suggested that they put a bin on the corner and attach the no entry signs to that

but that may spoil the look of the 'heritage corridor'

When I went into town this morning, I went to park in a disabled bay - well tried to do so.  There were three taxis parked side by side so that the drivers could have a natter.  Needless to say, not one of them had blue badges.  The one in the middle moved when I blew my horn but he reversed back when I'd got through.  In that particular parking pay, it is for blue badge holders from 8am to 6pm Monday to Saturday.  Seeing that it was around 8.15 on a Friday morning, I don't think that had a leg to stand on.  Typical taxi drivers.  I think that they are illiterate.

I shouldnt have been so mean ,Cornwall wouldnt survive without them.

It's just so annoying when it happens in front of you & it creates a tailback .That's when bad tempers can turn into accidents.

Well, as I predicted, today saw yet another near miss in town.  This time it was a lorry driver running a red light across a junction - came through the light following the peceeding car ( the driver of which was himself taking a gamble on the amber phase ) AFTER the conflicting traffic had started moving; two cars had to slam on their brakes, horns blowing, to avoid broadsiding the right of the lorry, two further cars very nearly went into the backs of those two as did the two behind them...

they seem to change the timing on the traffic lights at 2 places here

they had some sort of trial system to work out which was better

not helped by one set of traffic lights having a bridge  that has to be lifted for river traffic

Ah well it's getting to the council.  Whilst on holiday they've been playing with the junction lights, the road sign says "new layout" but the sign has been there for 6 months since they revamped it.  On the old layout people coming up and down the road went at the same time apart from the up the road turn righters who had to wait for the filter light(the unsighted down the road right turn having to risk life and limb because they couldn't see round us sitting there.

After the revamp there were no filters at all.

Suddenly there is a filter light for both right turns.  Great except it flickers on only on the side one is approaching from, long enough for about 2 cars and significantly before the main lights go green, then you are faced only with a red light.  Now mostly the turn righters freeze like rabbits in the headlights and wait for the main green sequence.  Now we are getting used to it but the straight on traffic see the green light and starts to move and then freezes in the middle og the junction wondering what is happening because they have always moved with or before us.  Nearly had a motorbike who decided he could go straight on with the lights on red the other day.

Accident waiting to happen.  It's the weirdest idea anybody has had in a long while.  Going to cause some major tailbacks too.

There's a dual carriageway going into our town which is about two miles away from town.  There is a set of lights at the end of the dual carriageway which used to have two lanes going straight on, one lane for turning right and another lane for turning left.  A few years ago some whizz kid decided that it would be a brilliant idea to have just three lanes - one for going left, one for going left and the other for straight on.  There are more hold ups at that junction than there ever where.  Pity that some of the road planners didn't have a brain.  I am certain that they live miles away from the road works they authorize.

The tailgaters.....the lane switchers....those who are allergic to indicating...the speeders.....on their phones.......    aaaargh the list goes on for me!

Mr elph is a parish councillor on the traffic committee  who runs our community speedwatch initiative with the local constabulary.   The abuse he gets!  He's trying to make the village safer for everyone (too many commercial vehicles, boy racers and young females who think rules don't apply to them) so stands out there with a speed gun to record those idiots prepared to pit their reaction time against lives.    Its not just drivers who are noticing truly heinous driving at the moment, its endemic and terrifying 😞
