Some of you know that my sister has ME/CFS.
I'm joining in the Walk for ME during ME/CFS awareness week (6-12th May) to raise money for biomedical ME research. For too long this disease has been misdiagnosed, mistreated and sidelined, and misunderstood by the general public.
I'm walking as much to banish ignorance about the condition as I am to raise money so would be grateful if people just read the below (I'll put it in the first post to avoid a huge OP).
I won't put the link, but I have a Just Giving page which can be found on the site as 'page for Bev and Nim' and perhaps if after reading you feel so moved to pop over there.....well, I'd be grateful.

Count me in, but need the link

Thank you Dougal :-x
I'm not running for anyone 😮 An elph in full battle charge is a sight for only the most hardy souls. Plus, I would certainly end up in a hedge. I can walk with care and still end up in a hedge mind you, but lets give me a chance to finish without needing rescuing 😄

What day does the walk happen?
Hope it goes well Elph 🙂

I'm doing it on Monday......which is threatening to be the hottest day of the year so far :_|
Bit of an extra challenge for a depressive with agrophobic and summer SAD tendencies!
My sister and those like her have challenges every day so I can handle it for a few hours I reckon. Sure once I get going I will become too interested in my surroundings (and map!) to worry

I'll be thinking of you elph...quite a challenge for you...well done! :-x

I'm off on my walk tomorrow. Conditions seem to have settled down to just about ideal and I'm now really looking forward to it.
I can also tell you that not only is my total a mindblowing £330 but that the Walk for ME team overall of which my walk is a small part of have blasted their target with a total so far of over £6,500! That is split between 3 ME rsearch charities that are each working on biomedical causes.

A year ago I couldn't have done this. I can now. I fervently hope that my sister, our friend and other sufferers will shortly be able to say the same.
Be back with pics sometime tomorrow once I've had a chance to curl up groaning for a while first 😉
:-x

Great that you are doing this - I have a similar thing, it is more disabling than my rubbish legs (I was already a wheelchair user). But I do find it frustrating when fund raising events are by definition inaccessible to the people they are supporting!

Wish we could have joined you but will be there with you in spirit, Elph :-x
Hoping the sun doesn't get too hot for you, don't want a puddle of goo on the finishing line! :^O

Good Luck Elph and may your day and walk be blessed all the way. :-x

I'm just getting ready for the off 😄
Splodgums, this was thought up by an ME sufferer - Walk for ME participants are doing it, however short/long/easy/arduous just because their loved ones can't.
It highlights for me that something most healthy people take for granted - a simple walk - is beyond so many, not just those with ME but anyone with a debilitating condition.
Hidden illnesses though hold that extra misery of others expectations. People who look well may be carrying a hidden condition that limits their life as devastatingly as anything more visible.
I'm walking for the lot of you who can't :-x
