We have a new plan.

We are to try a special pressure dressing. It then has until Wednesday, and if hasn't closed by then it is back to theatre.

However, nothing is ever simple. Pharmacy haven't got any of these dressing, they cost nearly £150 each and have to be ordered. Also pharmacy has run out of my anti-biotics (you'd never believe this is a hospital), because I have some weird bug that no-one's ever come across and they've all had to look it up in the textbooks.

Finally got them to write me a sick note, so that should keep work out of my hair for a bit

I would believe that it is a hospital.  When I had to get my mum into hospital at new year, she was put on the observation ward in A & E and they hadn't done my mum's obs after about three hours.  One nurse said that they were done at 12 noon.  I told the nurse that I was there then and said that they weren't done.  They only done someone else's obs and put them on my mum's records.  They'd even put notes about this other patient on my mum's records.  Due to the notes and obs they had put on my mum records, they wanted to send mum home but decided that they would wait until they had done an ECG.  It surprising how quickly the ECG was done after they finally did do her obs.  Mum then spent five days in hospital.  The list is endless in the hospital mum was in.  I knew that they wouldn't send her home as they had to get her heart rate stable.

I now have a new dressing, complete with pump. Took hours for the pump to start working, but I am no longer sitting in a huge puddle.

Have new commode which is wide enough and the right height - can either be used as a raised seat over the toilet or brought beside the bed if I prefer.

Staff have been brilliant today, I even got left to sleep until 8am, and I feel so much better for getting more sleep.

Hope you were left in peace for another good night - the day seems more manageable if you're not exhausted before it starts.

They woke me up every two hours changing sheets and bed pads as this new dressing is leaking even more than the original.

Then they went off and didn't disconnect the anti-biotic drip and I was desperate to go to the loo - only just made it as they took so long to come!.

Then the blasted pump came disconnected from the dressing, so I have been sitting here for half an hour waiting for them to come and sort it out. By now I have a puddle, so they'll have to change the sheets AGAIN.

I am so sick of them never finishing ANYTHING, they fly in, promise to be back in a minute, and then take hours to come back. In the mean time you can't get comfy as they have moved everything you want out of reach.

It was gone midnight before they got round to doing the evening pill round - it was a good job I wasn't desperate for pain releif!.

I'd write it all down and tell the consultant. It's not the nurses fault they are stretched but it seems false economy to spend money putting you right only for it to go wrong because of 'general maintenance' (sorry couldn't think of a pleasant way to put it!). Better still ask to see one of the hospital managers and tell them they are not succeeding. It's like that poem For Want Of A Nail, The Shoe Was Lost.

That's just what it's like isn't it huggles.  Those nurses must have no job satisfaction at all, no wonder so many are leaving, which just exacerbates the problem.  And as you say, a waste of money.

Perhaps one day stroppy..............................:-(

You sort them out gal!

I found that though my Surgeon was fabulous, the aftercare did leave a lot to be desired.  This time I am going in fore-warned and knowing what to expect, and fully intend letting them know if things are not done right.

It might seem extravagant to some that I went private.  I've only been in a NHS hospital once when I had pneumonia and I didn't like it.  Some people spend their money on foreign holidays, some on eating out, theatre, expensive handbags, posh cars etc. I don't have/want any of those, I pay medical insurance.   Each to his own.:-)

Each to their own CG, and believe me, if I had medical insurance and could go private, I certainly would!  My Mum went private to see the Surgeon for initial consultation, and he then placed her on his NHS list, so best of both worlds really, apart from the after care of course 😞

Chicken Grandma, I work in the NHS and both my parents had and used Private Medical Insurance. The way I look at it, because you are removing yourself from the waiting list you are shortening it for those who can't go private.:-)

It's an absolute shambles - certainly wouldn't have been allowed in my day. Sadly, nowadays, patients are well down on the list of priorities.

I hope you can get something better sorted, the sooner the better. Anything we can send in to make life a bit more bearable for you in the meantime?
