Signature files and Animated Gifs

Good Morning,

I am afraid to say that we have arrived at a post I had hoped I would not have to make 😞 I will be posting this message across most of the main boards throughout the day.

The size of Signature Files in posts is starting to get a little too out of hand. Lately the size has been creeping up and in some cases there are two or three different things in sig files pushing out the size of posts. In addition the use of animated gifs has been creeping back in along with ad's for sales and attempts to hide links in text.

For the most part I've tried to be as flexible as possible, overlooking the ones that are a little bigger than the recommendations. When they have been too large I've contacted members directly to ask them to resize them, and members have been happy to comply. This is no longer an option as it is taking up too much time due to the number of people needing to be contacted.

Were these reported Liveworld will act on them, and I don't want to see anyone getting a warning over something easily avoided.

At this point I would like to remind everyone about the signature guidelines, which you can find here: http://forums.ebay.co.uk/thread.jspa?threadID=400055459&tstart=0

I hope we can work within these guidelines and bring the threads back to a point where posts are easy to read without too much scrolling.

I appreciate your help on this.

James

sounds like a cool idea james ,we did used to have a thread like that many moons ago.pinned thread has my vote:-D

just like to add many so called trouble posters are not trouble at all in fact they have been here for years and are part of the larger ebay community, have many friends ect but are targeted at various times and eventually lose there ids.

and there's not a darn thing we can do about it.

very sad :_|

I second what not*just*lurking at post 459 just said.
We have just had a classic example of a thread being removed because we were discussing bpers and malicious reporting!

A pinned tag thread sounds cool AS LONG AS we can still keep our tiny sigs in other posts?

how about if the BPers id was disclosed in the 'slap' email? Then at least they would think twice about doing it, well maybe some would?

Yes we are dawn in dribs and drabs and yes that would be a great idea if that happened. It would put a stop to most of it 😄

Morning

The idea of a tagging thread would be to have one place to allow for this kind of creativity. Normal boards sigs would need to be static and within the guidelines. *looks up the thread 😉 *

Members are permanently banned and I have pretty much a zero tolerance policy regarding indefinite sanctions: get one and that's it. What happens is that in some cases people are simply not willing to accept the consequences of their actions and create new accounts.

For those of you on this thread, and the one relating to BPing that I have been emailed about, if you have a sanctioned account and set up a new one.. you are breaking board policy these are the rules and always have been. That's why your new ID's do not last.

Should you feel you have been maliciously targetted you are free to contact me. I do not promise to overturn the sanction but where warranted, will review the case. However, if the sanction is upheld, then that should also be accepted and should you continue to post you run the risk of loosing ALL ebay accounts, posting ID or not.

This is not an instant process so please, don't mail me and expect a 24 hour turnaround it just simply is not possible.

For all the calls for an end to BP'ing it always amazes me how many people fight sanctions where they have clearly deserved them. Working to clean up the boards is only going to work if attitudes change with it and people accept sanctions when deserved.

Thank you for answering James. On the whole when posters are banned they do accept it when its for a valid reason.
The arguement here is when posters get a sanction for either a innocent remark/smiley face etc and it happens more and more. There is a strong case here that there is malicious bping and thats what the problem is. How do posters go about stopping it.

I'm willing to discuss create a single thread that can be used for the creation of and sharing of elaborate sigs. However, this would be the only place to have them and not in main board posting sig spaces.

This would be a massive u turn on behalf of ebay, you removed every tag thread from the uk boards a while ago. This only happened on uk boards. The Nags and RT had one tag thread per board and yet they were removed and despite many emails have never been allowed to return, taggers have tried but the thread are just bp'd into oblivion or removed by yourselves.

Oh and there was a tag thread on Fun & Games, the only one, that was removed too!

The problem with tag threads is they get sooooo long.. and then the first few pages end up as pizza box after pizza box where people remove them from their PB or similar.

Maybe a tag thread with limit on the number of posts...and then a warning before its removed and restarted???

Tag threads were regularly culled at 250 pages or weekly, but they only got as big as they did as fast as they did because they were so popular.

I am sure Ebay could cull them at 100 pages without too much difficulty.

#471: Actually bumping threads and posts that contain only such things can be removed. It's generally not one of the ones you'd see much of given the fact that people need to bump threads for legitimate reasons too. Every case is different.

#472: I would be out a mostly naked men calendars here in the office, as I'm sure if I hung one up with half naked ladies.. I'd be hung drawn and quartered. Perception is important as is intent. However, when interpersonal issues arise, that is where it gets messy.

#473: I removed nothing. I am merely trying to find a compromise rather than end up spending my days getting queries about sig slaps. I said I'd sit down and talk it thru, there would need to be strict guidelines.. and as I said I reserve the right to pull such a thread if it gets out of hand. I'd like to clear up that PINKS do not moderate the boards and don't simply remove threads willy nilly. Every pink is aware of this and I've made sure of it since taking my role. I report thru liveworld the same way everyone else does. In exceptional circumstances, I will take extraordinary measures, but not for day to day issues.

Culling is possible, however, thats more aligned to activity on a thread rather than post size. I'll look into it tho.

Ok if we want to be pedantic, you may not have actually removed the tag threads but you instructed that all tag threads in the uk were removed over night one night and refused to discuss with taggers what we could do. We were trouble free threads and very self contained and yet they were just wiped off ebay without even so much as a warning.

Of course culling is possible it happened every week on all the very popular tag threads.

James, perhaps you should check with Richard, what the pinks or whoever it was were doing and their reasons for deleting whole tag threads, or do the rules change with each pink?

You were around at the time that these tag threads were removed as was Richard, so I am sure you knew exactly what was going on.

2. All images found in a signature may not exceed a total area of 50 pixels by 220 pixels

If this means 50 pixies HIGH and 22 pixies WIDE
Why when you RIGHT click on a sig does it show WIDTH X HEIGHT?
