She'd have thrown a right strop and boy would it have lasted and lasted. She's nearly 82 and behaves like a kid at times.

I bet it's difficult at times. Old people can be very demanding even though they don't realise it.
I suppose when she 'tells' you to do something, in her mind she means 'shall we' do it.
Perhaps they even slip back in time and think they have every right to 'tell' their child what's happening today!

My MIL is 96 nd lives in a granny flat we built her but in no way ever can we let her dictate when and where we go places as neither of us would ever earn enough to keep her in the style she's become accustomed too

But I think all situations are different. I wouldn't have liked my parents to live with me and as it happened I didn't need to have them here, but if things had been different and supposing they begged not to be put in a home.........................well, it would be difficult to refuse.

Good morning, yes, a beautiful sunny day again. My daughter and family set off just after 6 am to drive to just near Glasgow where they swap their Land Rover for a motor home and then make their way to the Isle of Skye for a week. They've got to Kettering so far, (well, they had 30 mns ago when she emailed) so making good time.

Love that one Merc
My Mum can act like a naughty toddler at times - mainly when she feels like she isn't getting enough attention. I pandered to her for years, but eventually learned that it was better to stand up to her and make her understand that she needs to fit in with me. She had some major strops at first, but now we actually get on better.
Getting organised for my hols today I think.

Afternoon all. It's very overcast here at the moment but no sign of rain yet.
I put my foot down with my mum and told her that we would go this morning as I wanted to potter around in garden this afternoon. I think that she did feel a little bit guilty but it won't stop it happening again and if it's not convenient, I'll put my foot down again. Hopefully, the message will get through sooner rather than later. Another way of looking at it is, I don't know what I'll be like at that age. Steph thinks that I won't be as bad as I know what my mum's put me through. I hope that Steph's right. Anyway, rant over.
