SOMETHING VERY WRONG IS GOING ON IN NATURE

HI ALL, I GET up every morning  at 4 30  to go to market and work,in spring and summer, when i have finished, and done my house work and chores, i always sit in the garden,AND I i love it.

This year is terrible, not only with the weather, with the atmosphere, and the trees.

Non of them are the same, has anyone else noticed.

ALSO, where are the BEES, WASPS MOTHS, LADYBIRDS AND HOVERFLIES?

there are very few bees, and the one,s we do see seem to come into the house and die,no wasps, nothing, not even those DIRTY FLY,S.

IT seems, LIKE EVERYTHING IS DYING,it is frightening, the blasted GREEDY COUNCILLORS,GOVERMENT, HOUSE BUILDERS ETC, HAVE finally got thier way,in concreting every thing over, the few gardens meadows flowers, are not enought, not to mention the blasted pesticides that they are using.

GGOD, put all these insects flys, moths beetles worms etc, on the earth for  a purpose, now they are all BEING WIPED OUT.

SO GOD,only knows what is going to happen.

IS THIS A WARNING, for a COMING DISASTER?

.

come to our garden for bees wasps flies...yuk but that's cos we live with sheep and cattle.

I do know we don't see many butterflies anymore:-(

It could be evolution...you can't hold on to every species, or we'd be keep dinosaurs as pets:^O

Do mention the pesticides: neonicotinoids, in particular.

I have a happy colony of honey bees working away, but a lot fewer other types (though most of the other types favorite food is only just starting to bud even, so maybe they're waiting) and far fewer moths, but I'm not that suprised following the winter we've had.

I can join in but I must say the baby birds are having a great time in the garden, so funny to watch.

It does seem very flat for this time of the year, usually more going on than this.

We have been saying for at least 4 years there have been problems in the gardens locally. We live under a flight path, not as busy as the big boys but they fly over us to go across the channel.

A few years ago my sister lives 2 miles from us had been telling us about some of her neighbors and her garden had suffered tree/shrub loss, it looked like burn marks with a strong weed killer but this had been dropped onto them from above. It appeared in a wide band of about 6 to 8ft and across at least 7 gardens in a row.  She is in the same direction as us too.

Last year we suffered similar burns across out garden and also a neighbor, we both lost some of the shrubs and serious burns to some big hedge conifers.  This year the conifers are dead, its slowly getting to the tops. Again we have burn marks in a line across the garden and some of the shrubs are just recovering. A Salix top completely shriveled up and died but a shoot has appeared half way down the stem.

Yesterday we stood watching our fish in the pond and all of a sudden you could see small splashes here and there on the water, the rings of liquid circled out with the multi colors like fuel makes? a plane had previously flown over so had the dumped fuel blown back in the wind!

Now we are waiting for it to happen again and we hope to catch some of the liquid from the pond when it happens, then we are going to the environment people X-(

Has anyone else suffered with this problem?

Good heavens dairyview, that's not good.

If your sister and her neighbours are still having the problems then maybe she should take photographs of these gardens and show them to the Environment officer in her local council. Same goes for you as getting visual evidence may help your case and take the date and time you took the photo.

Nesting birds with their chicks have been having problems this year feeding them because of last winter's awful conditions. I think the bee/butterfly problems have been going on a while now. Part of it is the concreting over of front gardens for parking, probably half the country is at fault here.

Another problem I think is the "instant" gardening everyone does these days together with the use of insect/bug sprays etc. We need to plant bee/butterfly "friendly" plants in the ground and make hedges so that the former can pollinate more easily.

Here's the Gardener's World link for Bee loving plants throughout the year.

The Hedgehogs are already in dire straights as are alot of our birds here in the UK. I haven't seen as many bumbles or butterflies as in previous years. The cold weather has been part of the reason and definately last year the wet summer was a problem. We in the hog world are experiencing more hogs coming in with really heavy parasite burdens. Which we think is due to the wet summer we have had last year. The poor hogs being compromised already with parasites are struggling getting enough weight on to hibernate and with an extended hibernation because of the cold weather there are alot that just aren't surviving. 😞 I have one in now that had a bad time of it. Luckily she is doing better, but I don't know the extent of the damage she has suffered so far. She is getting loads of tlc here at the moment.

Brian and I try to get the hogs back out so they can do what hoggies do and produce the next generation, but if there isn't food for them and the food they do have is full of parasites, I think we are starting to fight a loosing battle. 😞

Life is too short so enjoy it while you can!

On the BBC website today - a grass-free lawn:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-22846419

But I notice they have "double" daisies - like all double flowers, no use to bees as they can't get at the nectar or pollen.

Also, grass tussocks (what you get if you let grass grow) are really good for lots of moths, as the caterpillars live in them (and eat them, of course).

Will certainly keep our eye on it from now on.

While out walking this morning we saw lots of these in some small tree's

We dont know if the caterpillars had been laid first or the spiders? all of the white webs were full of baby spiders.

there is a desease bees are suffering from but some of the problem is the hyrid plants people plant in the garden which either bees cant get the pollen out of or they lack pollen.

if you can grow wild flowers either in a seperate patch or mixed in with your normal plants,  these are great for bees and also in the winter for birds when they seed especially evening primrose.

dont cut the dead heads down leave them as they will feed birds during the winter.   we had several finches every day on ours in the winter
