Our cat has been hit by a car

Had a phone call this morning from the vets round the corner to say that someone had been in to say they could hear a cat in distress, so the vet nurse went and got the cat and brought it to the vets. Turns out it is our Kuki. He has been hit by a car and has broken his pelvis in three places, dislocated his hip and is paralysed in his tail. They dont know if his bladder is also paralysed, we will have to wait and see over the weekend, if his bladder is paralysed, they will have to put him to sleep. She said the pelvis would eventually heal itself with cage rest and his tail would have to be removed.

He did not come in last night, but he does occaissionally sleep next door if he cant be bothered coming home. He must have been lying out there all night, one leg is cut and full of stones, where he had tried to drag himself back home. The vet said he was freezing cold when they got him.

So keep everything crossed for him.. xx

Thanks for that. I guess Im just after a bit of sympathy. I dont know what to do for the best . I have just been to see him and he looks a bit brighter. He still hasnt done a wee, but they said it might just be shock and swelling. I have just seen the x rays and his pelvis is completely seperated in three places, but its the damage where his tail joins which is the worst, there is a big gap where it should be joined on. I guess its just a wait and see.

Thinking of you and your cat. It is a pretty horrible when things like that happen. I hope he pulls through, but if not the best you can do is the hardest thing you can do for him. I had to face that same thing last year, but luckily our cat is still with us. His injury was from a fall and not a car, so not as bad. xxxxx

really hope that Kuki makes a good recovery, he is in good hands with the vet so try to get some rest yourself. You can only do your best for him, whether that is to have the treatment or to let him go will be a decision for you and your vet but which ever way it goes you will know that you are doing it out of love for your cat. So sorry to hear what has happened, been there a few times myself over the years and know how horrible it is.

How very sad and so awful for the cat and you and your family. Hopefully he will recover in time.

Please don't take this the wrong way and it isn't meant as a criticism of you personally OP,  but I'm always so surprised that people allow their cats out overnight. They can get into fights with other cats and with foxes, let alone drivers who don't see them, so it seems an added risk to be avoided imho.

Hi, we were not overly worried about him being out all night, as he sometimes sleeps at our next door neighbours and also at our neighbours over the road, he is a bit of a community cat. Everybody feeds him and he is in and out of everyones houses. We live in a very quite cul de sac and there is very little traffic.

 He is looking a bit perkier today, but has still not had a wee, and was not letting the nurse handle him at all. Hoefully we will have a better picture of things tomorrow.
