Oesophagal Manometry

Has anyone had an Oesophagal Manometry test done? I have it done next month and so far have heard it is not very nice. Just wondered what to expect.

Oesophagal Manometry

http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/003884.htm

Photobucketi had it done about 10 years ago

was asked if i wanted it done awake or asleep

awake is better

if you have it asleep it takes longer and you do,nt always feel good after

theres no need to worry as the link above will tell you

tube put in mouth with lots of help handy to comfort you

you will be asked to swallow and then thats all you feel they may take a sample but thats no problem either

I think an Esophageal Manometry is done through the nostril, endoscopy down the throat. I would have sedation myself as it isn't nice at all.

Yes they put a tube up your nose and down into the oesophagus, but when I phoned the hospital yesterday to enquire about it, they said it takes about 40 minutes "if you get on with it" and they don't use sedation, not even a nose spray, as "you don't need it." I think they should give you the option personally. I know I'll gip for England!

I've had two endoscopy's and the main thing is to tell yourself to not panic, try some calming exercises

and the staff will be very understanding especially if you tell them that you are nervous.

carol...when they are inserting the naso-gastric tube...just keep swallowing, swallowing, swallowing...& hopefully it'll just slide right on down.

Good Luck...but you'll be fine - the nursing staff will appreciate how nervous you are Woman Happy

Thank you but I don't have it done until next month. Smiley Happy I'm thinking of maybe getting some Bach's Rescue Remedy? It is supposed to calm you in situations you dont like.

Not long now until my appt, it's on Thuirsday; been tempted to watch the procedure on youtube, I'm sure it will be on there, but decided it might make me more apprehensive. Will let you know how it goes.

They put a tube up your nose and down your throat to test the pressure in your oesophagus. Takes about 40 minutes, "if you get on with it!" Thanks for your best wishes xx
