Nobody told my cat!

Want to show your cat affection? Think twice before stroking it: Our feline friends can become stressed when touched

  • Animal behaviour experts stroked different cats to varying degrees
  • They tested the stress hormone levels of each cat before and after stroking
  • Researchers discovered that none of the cats enjoyed constant touching
  • Some were prepared to tolerate it, but were more stressed as a result

I think they are probably right about stroking., thinking back over the cats I have owed and known.  They mostly like a quick rub under the chin and around the chops though.

Brushing and combing are different  - wonder if they tested that? For instance, all but one of my cats loved the zoom-groom rubber brush, and would actually rub themselves against it if I held it still.

Don't think my cats would agree with the researcher...they both love being petted and fussed over! The 'test'  cats were probably stressed by strange people and being in 'test' setting

My last cat wasn't a fuss cat at all, but the one before it was she would drape herself around your shoulders when you were watching TV and if she was on your lap and you stopped stroking her she would tap your hand for more, so I think that maybe they just had stressed or grumpy cats as I have had 4 cats over the years and two loved fuss and two didn't.

Surly if the test cats were that stressed they would move away from being stroked .

Mine loves his tummy tickle & will flop at our feet with paws in the air waiting  , if he was stressed by it we would have been shredded by now LOL

Mine too, both of them love being stroked and fussed.  The tabby one

rolls over upside down and gets my hand between his paws for more,

purring all the time.  The ginger one dabs me until I carry on.  I suspect

the "researchers" were stressing the cats.

She is a twelve year old Tabby and shes Gorgeous. My little companion in life. when im not well she will cuddle up next to me and seems to know i need her near me. i think if i do stroke her its her head she likes to be touched. Awwww.

Himself loved a fuss, if I got the tartan blankie out he'd go mad and try to jump on my knee before I had the blanket laid out!! he loved having his tummy tickled and adored a good brush. Of course I knew my place and waited to be invited for a cuddle session, but he was a very loving cat.kitten smiley.gif
