Paid over £3.00 for a spray de icer guaranteed to work in temperatures of minus 15 and it didn't work. Anybody found one that does work?
Because I start work really early I need something reliable as I don't have the time or inclination to faff around.

Mr T's own spray one is good , don't like the aerosol type myself

We find the aerosol is not very good as well, maybe will pick up one from work tonight, they have some in there, the trigger ones, find the aerosol ones clog up.

can you cover the windscreen with carpet or a cloth?
22-11-2013 5:44 PM
yes, did think of that, only the last time I did that it rained in the night then frooze and the blanket stuck to the windscreen.

lol, maybe a bin liner under the blanket
and
after a few days the leccy blanket on top running of the ciggy lighter socket lol

did you read and follow the instructions with the spray you got?

Yes I did, why?

I've found that the de-icer from one of the pound shops works well. Just moved my car down the drive and closed the gates behind it so that it will be more sheltered. It's already freezing but the car was telling me that it was plus 3. Methinks that the thermometer in the car might be slightly wrong. It's certainly cold here at the moment. I admit yet again to hating winter. It should be banned.

Just finished work got outside car frozen over, said minus 4. Bought some de icer in Mr T and it worked fab.

I put a bit of bubble wrap over the windscreen in winter as it acts as
insulation. Get a big bit and shut the edges in the doors and tuck
the windscreen wipers over the bottom bit. Works a treat.
If I do have to scrape, then I find scraping with an ice scraper the
best. The potions, apart from not being that good for the atmosphere,
only seem to work until they themselves freeze over.

Only problem I find with putting any sort of covering over the wind screen is that its fine if you can do it at home then pop it in the garage/bin but if you are at work and have to put it in the car it then defrosts whilst you are driving making the inside of the car damp which results in condensation on the windows meaning you then have a frozen inside of the screen too by the next day.

Thanks all will try a few of those things over the weekend.
Sadly with getting up so early I need something really quick, because I am a bit of a last minute Nelly and nearly always late, I know I should be more organised, but would you be at 2am.

Here's what I do. Ensure car is parked in sight of the house(not always possible and then i do freeze), mention to OH I am going out and off he goes and defrosts and warms through. Always has done.(((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((OH)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

Mmm nice idea I know a few people who do that, don't think my OH will be doing that, mind you when it is snowing he does get up with me, because I take his truck with 4 wheel drive and he has to give me a load of instructions even though I have driven it in the snow more times than he has,
I will only buy him if he does the ironing
23-11-2013 5:19 PM
ed, could you put the kettle on as you go out the door please as i am generally up about half 2 and am parched ?
23-11-2013 5:21 PM
Ah bless I will do that, you will have to wait until next Wednesday though I am off till then and I certainly won't be up at that time before then.
