I am looking for a book series, but I can't remember the book titles or the author, so not surprisingly I am struggling.
The books are set in ancient Rome at the time of the wars with Carthage and one of the major characters is a greek sea captain who becomes a citizen of Rome after helping to build a fleet of war galleys and defeating the Carthaginian fleet. One of the Cartaginian sea captains was the father of Hannibal (he of the elephants). Most of the action takes place at sea, but there are land battles too.
The greek sea captain has a Roman freind, who is a capatin of marines and often leads the marines aboard the galleys. The greek falls in love with his freind's sister, but of course he is not an acceptable "suitor" for a Roman nobleman's daughter as he is not a citizen of Rome.
Thre are various power struggles in the senate as factions vie for command of the Roman fleet of war galleys, also various power struggles within the Carthaginian government..
Anyone got any ideas?
Can you tell that I'm bored?
