Was sat at my computer this morning when I felt something tickle my wrist; I flicked it away then realised it was one of those huge spiders! Oh, I hate them. It went behind my moniter (maybe it was trying to surf the web!) Anyway it vanished for a few hours, so I was jumpy all the time wondering where it was, then I saw it on the ceiling and was able to "deal with it." I'm still itchy at the thought of it. Yuk.

I have been bitten by those twice; the first time was when I sat on a garden chair without realising one of them was underneath it and it went chomp chomp chomp across four inches of my leg; it took three months for all the swelling and itchiness to completely go and the second time it was a single bite from a smaller one but still took nearly two months for all traces to go...
A couple of years ago we had to have the house fumigated because the things were starting to get inside. There are lots of them round here but fortunately they do tend to stay in one place for a long time once they've made a web rather than move around a lot like other spiders do. Their webs are a very distinctive cross between sheet webs ( the sort that house spiders spin ) and random tangles so it is not too difficult to be aware of where they are.
