and really enjoyed it, much to my surprise! What am I talking about? Quorn, that's what. Have never really fancied it, judged only by looks, but it was so tasty, and I really couldn't taste any difference to the real deal. This was the Quorn chicken pieces, and I cooked it in a korma sauce. Haven't told Hubby what it was, am awaiting his verdict now, and I bet he can't tell it isn't chicken 🙂

As a confirmed veggie for over 30 years I eat Quorn all the time and provided you flavour the rest of the meal well it is a very tasty meat substitute. There have been occasions when my meat eating son didn't realise it was Quorn. And the benefit is that it is healthier for you...although not always the cheapest.

Well, it got the thumbs up from Hubby, so guess I will be buying more of it soon 🙂 I found it quite reasonable in price, as against chicken or minced beef. Very tasty, and as you say, good for us too. I think I am now a convert, and have learned a valuable lesson, to eat with my taste buds instead of my eyes :^O

and I really couldn't taste any difference to the real deal.
I really am not being funny when I say this but..... If you really couldn't taste any difference to the 'real deal' then either ...
You are a poor cook and overcook the real deal...or ..
The real deal you buy is cheap rubbish...
If you think that Quorn in any way tastes the same as a free range organic corn fed chicken then I a monkeys uncle...
Sorry not having a go... just voicing my opinion..... as did you...

Personally I think Quorn is awful, particularly the chicken pieces! Sorry.

It's a case of getting used to something and I would never swap from Quorn now. For us veggies it is a source of protein - less the fat content. I am happy not to eat meat

It is each to their own tastes I suppose, but I did enjoy it, and so did Hubby 🙂 I think as long as it has strong flavours put with it, it will be okay.

Indeed.....you do have to be more inventive with seasoning. Quorn in my opinion soaks up the flavours well of whatever you are cooking. My favourite is Quorn chilli. It has a longer shelf life than fresh meat as well. Keep up with it as you are not only saving the life of an animal but helping you and hubby have a healthier life style. I have not yet met an obese vegetarian!

😮 :_| NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
01-05-2013 6:48 PM
It is mainly for health reasons that I decided to try it. I am overweight due to be disabled and unable to exercise, and I have high cholesterol too, so anything that can help is a bonus 🙂

I am not so keen on the quorn pieces and chunks.. however I do like the prepared quorn, for example, the chicken style nuggets or battered fillets.. so not really the low fat option!
I also agree with expresso... was getting so fed up with tasteless chicken that I gave up eating it, until.. got a corn fed free range one.. reduced.. now, its only free range or corn fed for me.. the extra expense is worth it!

Welshtoff. If you can look at making your diet more towards the veggie side then you will find you will eat less fat. Plenty of quorn and lentils for your protein - cheese and eggs as well but high in cholesterol (I think). I don't eat five portions per day - more like 10 fruit and veg. I have low cholesterol, perfect blood pressure and am the right weight for my height. Not eaten meat in 35 years and don't regret my decision. Try and make your own meals rather than buy the ready made. It was a conscious decision not to eat meat...but I would NEVER criticise those that do (my son eats meat).

I'm not a veggie, but I often eat veggie food because I quite like it.
I don't eat quorn though - I tried it once and - how shall I put this - it went straight through me without touching the sides....:_|
