Wanted to see my Doctor this morning, so went through the usual rigmarole of "phoning at 8a.m." Usual case, by the time I got through, after repeated attempts and listening to the engaged tone, he was booked up. I now have to start again at 12-30. I hate this system. Who else remembers the good old days where you just went to the surgery and sat and waited your turn, sat on a hard, wooden bench?

I agree with you CB.  The receptionists at our doctors will ask what the problem is but you don't have to tell them if it's personal.

I've just registered us for booking online appointments at our doctors.  The next time either of us need an appointment, I'll do it online.

I hardly ever need to go to the doctors nowadays luckily, but on the rare occasions when I do they've always been pretty good & reliable enough through my eyes when it comes to appointments as our local doctors surgery is a small one 🙂

We're very lucky at our surgery.  The receptionists are really helpful, the GPs will ring back if they really cannot fit you in but you're not at all well or are worried, the online booking service works really well but if there isn't an immediate appt, again we can call the surgery to see if we can be fitted in somehow.

Online repeat prescription services work really well too.

Ours is also a large surgery with 8 GPs, 2 or 3 nurses (I lose track) an inhouse pharmacy for those from the outlying villages and a pharmacy for the rest of us just across the driveway.

They have other health workers and specialists there too.

It's really bad that so many other folk suffer the dreadful services that we hear about and not just on this thread.

I think being able to go online is a good thing and you can get repeat prescriptions at ours too now!!!!

What they are doing now over repeat prescriptions is that they will be done electronically between the chemist and the doctor's surgery.  You have to nominate a chemist though.  I don't know the system works properly yet though.

They do that at my local surgery - it works fine

Main problem is trying to see/speak to a doctor.

Well it;s usually a nightmare getting an appointment at MrsWs surgery but today we rang them cos Onions was running a temp of 38,5 underarm and was very red. They said they would talk to a doctor and get back to us. 1o mins later they phoned and said get down here asap and the doc will see you. Turned out it was nothing serious (slapped cheek syndrome) but was nice to see they can be helpful.

However while we were waiting they have one of those scrolling message things and it said that 241 appointments had been missed in March. No wonder you can't get an appointment

Feeling really upset at the moment; my backache has got worse so thought it best to see my GP again as I am worried. Same performance as before, by the time I had got through, there were no appts left with my usual GP, so had to take the only available appt left. Went to see this GP, (who is a lady GP) and she told me that "I am not doing myself any favours" by seeing a different GP. Well what am I supposed to do??!! Also found out that a blood test that I had done in February showed something was going on and I should have been contacted. I'm thinking of changing GP's to be honest; it's bad enough feeling unwell without these sort of comments.

Honestly, some doctor's do your head in.  I would definitely change Carol.  We changed GP's nearly four years ago and it was the best thing we ever did.

Hope that you get sorted soon.

Thanks, Chris. More blood tests on Tuesday; I usually phone for the results a couple of days later and will do the same this time and make sure I am informed about ALL the results. Even the receptionist was shirty when I asked for a sample bottle; what is the matter with these people? It's people like me that keep them in a job. xx

Our GP sounds a lot like yours Rose.  If we've been for any tests and the results are abnormal, we are in to see the doctor asap.  That's just how it should be.

Thanks, Rose. Got to have an x-ray as it could be arthritis caused by the Crohns. In the meantime, more painkillers to take. I feel like reporting her to be honest, but might be "doing myself no favours" that way! xxxx
