So have popped in to vent my frustration .....
Just called in at the local village shop close to work in my lunch hour for tea break essentials and was having a little chit chat to the woman behind the counter .......... like you do , when along came a woman and I presume her partner who were in their late 30's about.
She pushes past me and says in her loudest voice possible so that the whole shop can hear " **bleep** more bleddy foreigners "
I'm sorry but I'm in my own country speaking my own language !!!!!!!!
and so I told her in very clear Welsh exactly what I thought of her attitude and her dress sense which went wayyyyyyy over her head but amused the rest of the customers and Cerys immensely.

Well done Stan. These horrid people need puttng in their place.

It was her attitude that annoyed me as much as anything Fishy no "excuse me" "please" or "thankyou" even if I did speak a different language it was just plain rude and the amount of F words was astonishing.
But I do expect to be able to speak in my first tongue here, I would't dream of going over the border and speaking welsh to a shop assistant and expect her to understand the same way that I don't use it when abroad and always at least try to learn a few words of that countrys language if only to say hello and thanks
Really got my goat !!

It's a pity you didn't tell her all those home truths in English so that she knew what you were saying stan. You could have then given her a slap and told her it's an old Welsh cutomer to welcome foreigners to YOUR country.

Whoops!! Sorry, custom not customer!! I'm definitely going senile!!

Ah Stan, some years ago I went in to a shop in that village up the hill where the er, Jack....... live, er well, you know where I mean?
They were all speaking Welsh when I went in, they all stopped and turned to look at me. (I'm "English"...) no-one spoke, I asked for (in English) and got what I wanted, paid for it and as I turned to go said "Diolch", should have seen their faces.......
It's life Jim, but not as WE know it.
Live long and prosper.

Well done for telling that ignorant madam. You are entitled to speak your mother tongue in your own country.
Talking about manners or rather lack of them. I was in a shop once and I was trying to get past a couple of ladies who were having a chat. I said excuse me three times and they still didn't move. When I finally managed to get passed them, they had the nerve to call me pig ignorant. I pointed out that I had said excuse me three times and they said I hadn't. Another lady backed me up and accused them of being erm pig ignorant. People's lack of manners really annoy me.
