Polly - love your photos and it certainly brings back lots of memories. My daughter has been round today and we watched the Monaco grand prix and then spent an hour on her laptop looking at trips to Vegas as we are having serious withdrawal symptoms :^O

Bryn - what lovely photos 🙂

Stu - that photo is definitely a 'keeper' - just beautiful 🙂

Well, as you can see I survived my trip to Devon and managed to take a few photos which was a miracle as it never stopped raining :_|

Your Grand daughter is a treasure a wonderful image well done, sorry you didnt like the Pentax, I would hold back a little while as they are all releasing new cameras in the coming months, that way you may get a cheaper price on the one you like

Nikon UK have just raised the UK prices in fact my D300 is more now then it was 16 months ago
Have you considered a D80 excellent camera no video and very good price at the moment,
If you go for a Nikon dont be swayed by the Nikon lenses the quality is poor, I use Sigma, My £2000 Nikon lens just stopped working it locked and would not budge, due to the motor drivers Nikon wanted just over £1000 to repair it the lens is 13 months old

I am among thousands that have had the same problem with Nikon Lenses
Being a ANP (affiliated Nikon professional ) I get so called better service then joe public hence why i dont recommend the lenses

I now use the DX3 with D300 as my second body, but even i am debating going with Canon EOS 1DS looks a good camera

Hi shady, no worries about the pentax, tbh it was good to be able to compare them and get a feel for which was best. It will probably be a few months anyway before i take the plunge and I will look at the D80 as i am not bothered about the video feature. I have been told that the nikon lenses aren't worth the extra and pretty much everyone swears by the sigma!

will see what packages are available between the canon and nikon and will go from there, thx again for your time and comments they have been very helpful:-D

FHG Photography Thread

Hello 🙂

I've been offered a loan (maybe buy if like it) a DSLR camera. It's a Nikon d100, but comes with no manual.

I haven't got clue about DSLR's really - not tech minded at all - but would really like to learn.

What I was wondering if anyone can recommend any good sites /Cheap books for using DSLR'S or even advice.

Also, I really love taking sunsets / sunrises pics, But cannot afford a flash light - can I use the camera without one?

Many thanks 🙂

Hi poppy there are loads of guides on internet just google and there are some freebies there are also loads available on ebay too on disc.

With sunrises/ sunsets you do not need a flash (in fact a flash would be useless) the best 2 things to get I reckon would be a tripod and a remote shutter switch. Basically this will allow you to take slower shutter speeds without showing any shake. hope this helps need to go to work now

some people use flash and things look a mess

lots of other preferable natural light sources are better

anything is worth trying out
