congratulations Ginap, youre pics are great especially the 2nd one. Ive had a lucky break too, i met the editor of the S E Nine magazine which is the local mag that gets delivered to all the propertys in SE9, Im now taking pics to go along with the storys. Ive taken a pic of a lady who is running a marathon for a charity started by the parents of a local boy who was murdered and tomorrow i have to take pics of a old man who was a professional photog and has amassed a hugh collection of photos and cinefilm of the local area.
Really excited about this. -

i wonder if any of you kind peeps could recommend something to help me out ? 2 things..

1) As i'm in the throes of setting up a website I need my photos of clothing to have that " floating" look that big websites have ( eg debenhams/ asos) where there's no background or mannequin showing.

i've read that V bright lighting on a white background would acheive this. I've got a 2x 500w halogen lamps on a tripod, but they still seem to give off a yellow glow...i need pure white light. the photographic accessories are hugely expensive : £100's of pounds for a single light. does anyone know what i could use ( i was thinking halogen??) that's reasonably priced, so i can buy multiple lights, that are white, not yellow tinged?

2) taking photos of pure black clothes. discuss ! :_| even with the halogen lights & 3x 100w bayonet bulbs the definition is not good. I have to fiddle round with overexposure & contrast once the piccys are on my laptop.

i'm only using a panasonic lumix by the way....maybe that's not helping, for a start ?

thank you in advance ! :-x

Hi drew,

No good at giving advice on clothing photography not really my thing. As far as the lighting is concerned it may well be worth buting some good flash lights, I bought some recently from China (on Ebay) and they really have done the job, they did cost a few hundred quid though.

Black is always going to be tricky I am afraid, I think you will have to work out by trial and error to see whats best, but try not to lay black items flat try and give them some depth if possible.

As far as the camera is concerned you would get better result with a DSLR but it depends on how much you really want to spend, BTW an easy way of doing a white background is just to use a large flat bed sheet and hang it up

Morning all..I have been using a Canon EOS 300d for a couple of years now and have recently been thinking of upgrading but am unsure of what to go for next..any suggestions would be helpful.I mainly use my pictures by the way for Digital Scrapbooking..most of them are of my son and grand-children and of course my lovely family pets. Thanks

Not too sure abby I use a Nikon so not really up on the Canon range, are you looking to stay with Canon? if so it might be worth going to Canon's website and have a look at whats on offer and what matches your requirements in terms of spec and price

Hiya..I had a look when I was in town today at a few within the price range I can spend and one I did like was the Nikon 5000d..It did feel a little heavier than the Canon 450D but the spec on both were about the same so maybe I will go for a change of brand..thanks for your thoughts anyway...I'm no expert so all advice greatly appreciated.
