I wanted to ask something else, why did you suggest I put my pb to private yesterday Sturos? There are only scenic-type photos on there, nothing private. Does it really matter if it's public or private? I'm not sure what difference it makes? I've changed it to private now as you advised that but I wondered if I was missing something?

when taking landscapes ie city o rfields look for a focal point can be tree, building a person or other object, always stick to leading lines which is what draws people into a picture and use the rule of thirds

see this picture has a focal point the tower, leading lines the water edge sea wall and uses the rule of thirds

I love the three in post #244...the wheel and sunset ones
And the ones of Tilly are sooo good too, wish I could take photos like that lol

Do you know anything about a Samsung GX20? ...I got one for my birthday (and I'm finding it rather difficult to operate lol) not sure what's the best settings to use and think I need someone to explain things to me in simple terms 😉 hehehe ~ any ideas or tips would be much appreciated lol

Thank you for the tip about looking for a focal point Shady.

For some reason, whenever I take landscape shots, I try to frame the photo (with something at either side) and so I think you've hit the nail on the head, I end up with nicely framed shots with nothing in the middle! It's funny, isn't it? I think we get into these habits and then stick to them for no very good reason. I'm going out to try your way today to see if they look better, I feel sure they will.

Mine always end up with me thinking 'why on earth did I take that photo?'

Thanks. 🙂

TBH i dont know much about other makes of camera I have always used Nikon from F70 film to the D300 digital i presume every SLR is the same so if it has presets like portrait, landscape use them if not try A or AV mode my Iso is always 200 or below and i set my WB myself as i use a light meter to meter most shots, even boring subjects can make interesting pictures

One tip i think i gave the OP and he found it worked
stand opposite an window or patio door, move as far away from it as you can still see out of it, note what you see

then walk towards it stop and note what you can see,
then get to the door/window note your view this is how a camera lens works trust me it helps figure out what your doing

another thing to remember with SLR is if the lens length is say 100mm then your shutter speed needs to be 100 to stop blur, always try and keep ISO at 200 and your JPEG settings as medium/high
