One of our hamsters escaped, & set up home inside the hard drive (? the box that used to sit on the floor by the computer desk)
We too put out stuff to lure him & it was all whisked away we knew not where by morning
Someone had the genius idea of bringing our dog in on a lead as he was always interested in cages & watched them rather as humans watch television
He soon went straight to the desk & hubby had to dismantle the box to find a HUGE comfy nest & stash of food in there, plus a sleepy hamster
Another hamster escaped & got into a void half way up the stairs. Hubby had to take the carpet up & some treads off to locate that one. He wasn't best pleased (OH, not the hamster)
We weren't very good at keeping hamsters secure - well, we have 4 children - & another one was located in the desk drawer, where he had shredded our mortgage papers to make a vast nest!!!! *cue children crying because they thought we'd be homeless. We weren't - what they didn't realise was that the hamster was more at risk of being turfed out at that precise moment *joke folks - he lived happily with us for a good 3 years) (the excercise during escapes kept our rodents fit
