'EcoEgg' - Do you use them instead of 'normal' washing machine powder and fabric conditioner?

I'd like to hear from anyone that uses EcoEggs for a review of their effectiveness, as the financial savings over a year are big, and I really like eco friendly stuff Woman Happy

My daughter has been using them since I ran out of merlingoo for her to 'pinch'.  Her daughter is allergic to most washing powders, but she says these are ok.  Have you tried 'merlingoo'?  Lots of people on here make it and use it.  It's eco friendly and costs a fraction of normal washing liquid.  Woman Happy

I don't know what Merlingoo is Cat Tongue

Do you have a recipe for me to take a peek at please?

(mind you £19.99 for around 3 years worth of washing done with the EcoEgg takes some beating)

Off the top of my head, (I have got a recipe if you decide you'd like it) It's 4 bars of grated toilet soap, a lb of soda crystals, a lb of borax substitute (you can't get borax any more) and loads of water, and some essential oils if preferred to make it smell nice. Add it all together and it makes roughly 35 to 40 pints of goo, named after the 'world' famous witch member of the sewing thread.  Woman LOL

That quantity would last me years! lol

FULL BATCH

2 litres Water (boiling)

2 cups/16oz Bar soap (grated)

2 cups/16oz Borax

2 cups/16oz Washing Soda

20 additional litres of water

HALF BATCH

1 litre water (boiling)

1 cup/8oz bar soap (grated)

1 cup/8oz Borax

1 cup/8oz Washing Soda

10 additional litres of water

QUARTER BATCH

1 litre water (boiling)

1/2 cup/4oz bar soap (grated)

1/2 cup/4oz Borax

1/2 cup/4oz Washing Soda

4 and a half additional litres of water

Add finely grated bar soap to required amount of boiling water in a pot, on the cooker, gentle heat, stir/whisk until soap is melted.

Add the Borax and Washing Soda & Stir well until all is dissolved.

Pour into bucket

Add required amount of additional litres of warm/hot tap water, stir until well mixed.

Add fragrance if desired, i use baby powder but only because its my favourite

Cover pail and use 1/4 cup for each load of laundry or bottle. Stir the soap each time you use it (will gel but will take approx 48hrs).

Thanks both of you, and I'll probably give the goo a go in the future Cat Very Happy

If anyone has experiences with the EcoEggs, I'd still like to hear their thoughts in the meantime.

I had been making the "goo" for years happily until earlier this year when I changed washing machines and nothing seemed to wash very well and some items came out with goo on them Woman Sad

I happened across the Ecozone washballs in a local farm outlet and thought why not !!  I presume they are similar ?  Very happy with them and no storage space needed so even took one on holiday recently  just in case !!!! Woman LOL

BTW Was not the goo fault its was getting use to the new programmes Woman Embarassed
