Dog rescue centre dismisses us out of hand simply..................

because we live in a flat above shops.

We lost our beloved Suzie almost two years ago now and are only just starting to think about another dog and thought lets register with a rescue centre and take it from there.

Anyway we went and explained we were not ready yet to rescue another dog but would like to register and have someone come and check out our home etc. As soon as we mentioned we lived in a flat above shops we were told no way would they allow us to rescue a dog. Literally one minute from our home is a massive piece of waste ground a dog can run around on, two minutes away is the beach which we told them about and still they would not let us register. We had Suzie 15 years before we had to let her go to play at Rainbow Bridge and we still have her son Benny who is now almost 13 and he has had two major operations which cost us a lot of money but our dogs were always treated like family and we would do anything for them.

Now we are dismissed out of hand as being unsuitable as dog owners ! Well all I can say is NO more donations to any rescue centres if that is the attitude they are adopting.

We would not entertain buying a pup that is advertised as we feel there are too many dogs in rescue centres needing a forever home.

Sorry for length of post but just needed to rant somewhere.

It's worth looking on Dumfries & Galloway Canine Rescue's website.  The rescue is at Dovecotewell, by Glencaple, near Dumfries. They have 27 dogs at the moment, various breeds and all lovely!

Thank you vamo...I saw her on one of the sites...why did I think  'she ' was a  'he ' ?:|

West Calder is certainly within travelling distance.

I would like a female, & preferably one that has finished her ' racing ' life, only because I think they are so deserving of a forever home.

I'll keep looking...the right girl will appear when it is meant :-x

Greyhound lifeline are a great charity. She looks like a lovely dog but I think they are all lovely! lol Not sure if they adopt to Scotland though. I hope Merc will find her forever dog closer to home.

Sorry Mercs. Maybe they have a link to a rescue closer to you. You could always email them maybe and see if they know of one. 🙂

got my scruffs from a fairly local animal rescue.  an over sized rough  haired jack russell.

as it hadnt been in the centre for ther required number of days to see if it was claimed we had to wait but they let us take him a couple of days early as we said it was unlikely the owner would claim now and if they did we would bring him back.

our garden wasnt enclosed but we do have a small area closed off now and we told them we would be taking him away in our campervan all over the uk.  they said he was a very lucky dog and yep   hes spoilt.   hes even been on 2 boating holidays as well even though he doesnt do cold and wet and loved it.

i hope op doesnt get put off by one stupid short sighted rescue centre.   its not the dogs fault and so many are crying out for good homes

See my me page if you want to pay some dosh in for Deno and posh

Hi RC, merc & anybody else looking for a new canine household member 🙂

RC - you have mail - up there ^

Happy to report that we don't have a blanket ban on potential new owners who live in flats 🙂 The only difference is if it's a flat with a communal entrance, other residents must be ok with you getting a new dog but as you already have Benny, I can't see this being a problem. Also need to check if the landlord agrees to it - again, shouldn't be a problem in your case 🙂

Obviously, common sense has to be applied - there's no way an arthritic St Bernard would be suitable for a 15th storey flat with access only by a staircase. Neither would a very vocal JRT be suitable if the next door neighbour works night shift but  if common sense prevails, then there should be a happy outcome 🙂

Pending a home check - same for everybody no matter where they live - we'll happily rehome a suitable dog so have a wee peek at the website - www.caninerescue.co.uk  & see if any take your fancy. I'll be happy to go & check out any you like the look of & get what info I can for you 🙂

🙂
